Job Description

Job Summary Campus Safety OfficerUnder the direction of the Sector Sergeant, this position provides a safe environment for students, staff and guests on campus. They establish and maintain a productive rapport with the students, staff and community members while creating and maintaining a positive working relationship with the School Resource Officers and other local and state Public Safety Officials. They assist in the development and implementation of emergency action plans in the event of an emergency requiring an immediate response to imminent threats of violence, criminal incidents, emergency medical incidents, auto accidents and other matters and events that require emergency intervention. This position reports to the Sergeant.

Key responsibilities include patrolling the exterior and interior of campus to provide assistance and direction, monitoring school facilities for security, assisting with District Safe School Searches, preparing documentation, responding to emergency situations, and assisting other personnel as required. The individual must make decisions and recommendations which affect the activities of others, demonstrate sound judgment, and possess good interpersonal skills. Great time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks are required. The work is performed both inside and outside of the building, during daylight and night hours, and requires moderate physical effort.

Key job requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, job-related experience preferred, security training and/or law enforcement experience preferred, and the ability to work at and within the established school site, demonstrating problem solving skills and crisis intervention strategies. The position is a 205-day position paid on the CPS salary scale.
