Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Bilingual Safety Officer fluent in both English and Spanish to help maintain a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for our clients and guests. This individual will play a critical role in fostering a trauma-informed, youth-centered space while maintaining safety and de-escalating conflicts as needed. Provides professional safety and security services for our two locations in Gwinnett County in our community food pantry and community youth drop in center by controlling access to both buildings; patrolling the facilities; providing written reports, and performing specific duties pertaining to the safety and security of staff and clients.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
. Monitors the office space, common areas and parking lots regularly Greets and Assists visitors, clients, guests with entering building Use de-escalation and conflict resolution strategies when necessary. Build rapport with youth through respectful, culturally competent communication. Support staff during programming and events, ensuring a safe environment. Respond to incidents, complete incident reports, and communicate with supervisors. Collaborate with outreach, case management, and other program staff. Maintain confidentiality and follow all organizational policies and procedures. Participates in organized programs for training, crime prevention, and community relations. Develops good working relationships with teams. Assumes additional responsibilities and performs special projects as needed or directed. 2. Exhibits trauma informed care in performance of all job duties. 3. Treats all others with respect; understands the impact of culture/background on the behavior of others; respects and demonstrates inclusive behavior. 4. Anticipates, listens to, understands, and responds to clients needs. 5. Handles incidents to help ensure the safety of everyone onsite
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training and/or Experience A High School Diploma (or equivalent) with some security or law enforcement experience. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics Fluent in Spanish and English (spoken and written). High school diploma or GED required; additional training in security, youth work, or social services a plus. Minimum 1-2 years of experience in a safety/security role or working with youth in a community-based setting. Possesses some knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Able to perform duties independently under general supervision. Able to prioritize and manage multiple projects, adhering to strict timelines. Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on conflict resolution. Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to communicate at all levels. Well-developed analytical and problem-solving abilities. Able to organize work, engage in a variety of tasks simultaneously and consistently meet deadlines. Able to write reports and business correspondence.
Computer skills:
Microsoft Office applications. Ability to perform CPR and basic life saving activities. Ability to observe and define problems, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse populations. Understanding of trauma-informed care, youth development, and harm reduction principles preferred. Ability to stay calm and respond appropriately in high-pressure situations. Must pass a background check and complete required safety training. Certifications, Licenses, registrations A Valid Georgia Driver's License is required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum 1-2 years of experience in a safety/security role or working in a community-based setting. Graduation from a certified police academy, security school or military police training school preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Requires ability to communicate and exchange information Must be able to lift between 40 lbs individually and up to 100 lbs. with assistance; retrieving and placing materials on high shelves and on floor-level shelves; standing, walking; carrying; grasping; hearing; seeing; sitting; kneeling; climbing; balancing; stooping; crouching and reaching.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Must be able to stand/walk for extended periods. Some evening and weekend hours may be required. Indoor/outdoor environment depending on programming needs. Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
