Job Description

A mall security officer's primary responsibility is to maintain safety and order within the mall by patrolling the premises, monitoring security cameras, responding to incidents, enforcing mall rules, providing customer service, and coordinating with local law enforcement when necessary, essentially acting as a visible deterrent against criminal activity while ensuring a safe environment for shoppers and staff.
Key duties may include:
Patrolling:
Regularly walking through the mall to deter crime, identify suspicious activity, and check for potential hazards.
Access control:
Monitoring entrances and exits, checking for unauthorized access, and verifying identification when needed.
Incident response:
Responding to alarms, disturbances, medical emergencies, shoplifting attempts, and other incidents requiring security intervention.
Customer service:
Answering questions from shoppers, providing directions, and assisting with lost and found items.
Crowd control:
Managing large crowds, addressing disruptive behavior, and ensuring compliance with mall policies Surveillance monitoring: Actively observing security cameras and reporting any suspicious activity Report writing: Documenting incidents, observations, and security concerns in detailed reports
Communication:
Maintaining contact with mall management, local law enforcement, and other security personnel Emergency preparedness: Knowing and following emergency procedures, including fire drills and evacuations Required skills: Strong observation skills and ability to identify potential threats Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with diverse individuals Ability to de-escalate situations and resolve conflicts peacefully Physical fitness to perform patrol duties Basic computer skills for reporting and surveillance monitoring Knowledge of relevant security procedures and local laws
