POSITION SUMMARY
The Security Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and protection of the organization's employees, visitors, and property. This role maintains a secure environment through regular patrols, monitoring security systems, enforcing policies, and responding to incidents and emergencies. During times when primary responsibilities are limited, you may be asked to assist in other areas as needed to support overall operations, regardless of the specific role. This position is essential to operations and must be staffed at all times. Therefore, the employee in this role will need to remain in place until a replacement is arranged and able to assume responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Monitor security systems, access control, surveillance cameras, and alarm systems. Conduct routine patrols of facilities, grounds, and high-risk areas. Respond promptly to incidents, emergencies, and security breaches. Write and review incident reports, ensuring accuracy and completeness. Identify and report potential security hazards or suspicious activities. Provide assistance during medical emergencies, evacuations, or disturbances. Write clear, accurate incident and activity reports. Assist with visitor management and access control procedures. Enforce company access policies and ensure restricted areas are secured. Conduct bag checks or vehicle inspections when required. Greet and assist employees, persons served, and visitors in a professional manner. Provide directions, support, and general assistance as needed. Follow all safety protocols, security procedures, and post orders. Report hazards, maintenance issues, or policy violations. Support emergency preparedness and participate in drills when required. Respond to conflict and crisis situations in a calm & non-reactive manner. Demonstrate effective verbal de-escalation and restraint techniques per agency policy and training at the direction of treatment team. When situations warrant law enforcement involvement, security staff will contact TPD for assistance. Collaborate with emergency personnel such as police, rescue, fire, and the agency staff to facilitate emergency service needs while protecting persons served confidentiality in accordance with state and federal laws. Work closely with the Health & Safety Committee around safety. Transport persons served or assist staff in transportation of persons served when requested. Dispose of weapons and/or drugs when requested by staff and as needed. Assist and document UAs, breathalyzers, and covid tests on persons served as requested. Demonstrate effective communication to achieve a positive relationship internally and externally. Establish appropriate and professional boundaries with all individuals. Treat individuals with Dignity and Respect at all times. Consistently demonstrate the ability to work effectively within a team as well as individually. Assure compliance with department and agency policy and procedures, guidelines, and timelines. Willing to flex work schedule to be available on-call 24/7 to include evening, nights, weekends, and holiday emergency call outs. Other Duties Demonstrate cultural and linguistic competence Approach interactions with individuals served and colleagues with a trauma sensitive lens Acts as an ambassador of the agency in the community setting. Support and actively promote the vision and mission of the agency and the philosophy of the strength's perspective Complete required agency and department trainings. Complete all assigned duties each shift, both written and implied. Other duties as assigned, as qualified and trained for.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent; additional security or criminal justice training preferred; relevant experience can be substituted. Must be 21 years old Minimum 2 years of experience in security or corrections Prefer experience with behavioral health. Must be proficient in basic computer skills, keyboarding and word processing skills Knowledge of security procedures, emergency response, and surveillance systems. Assignment at the CIC requires pre-employment physical, drug screening, flu immunization and TB screening prior to starting any position. All must be completed or in process/scheduled to be cleared for new hire orientation. Annual flu vaccinations and bi-annual TB screening are required. Must have good command of the English language; must be able to read, communicate clearly and therapeutically with persons served and staff, both verbally and in writing, in a professional manner. Successful completion of criminal background check and DCF Child & Adult Abuse Registry check, and other applicable background investigations. Possess a valid Kansas driver's license, reliable transportation, and proof of auto insurance. Ability to work day, evening, night, weekend & holidays shifts, and on-call based on the needs of the program.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position is essential to operations with an office and community-based work environment, primarily on site, some community involvement, and requires a flexible schedule. This position supervises individuals in multiple agency locations. Frequent travel between sites, partner agencies, and community events. Frequent interruptions may occur. Risk of exposure to aggressive adults and children. Risk of working with various pieces of equipment. This position may involve long periods of sitting or standing, using telephone, computer and mobile devices. Stooping or bending to access files or lift and carry equipment or supplies is a requirement. Evening and weekend shifts may be required. Must be available for on-call shifts for emergency call outs.
