These efforts are monitored and assessed regularly to ensure accountability to all stakeholders.Position Summary:
The School Safety Officer is responsible for providing access control and related safety functions across Lawrence Public Schools. The officer ensures a safe learning and working environment by monitoring entry to school buildings, identifying visitors, and responding appropriately to incidents.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Question and identify all persons attempting to enter the school building.
- Determine whether visitors have a lawful purpose on school property.
- Notify proper authorities of any incidents occurring while on duty.
- Prepare written reports on any incidents encountered during duty hours.
- Provide security for assigned property and its occupant
- Uphold all Lawrence Public Schools codes of conduct.
- Perform other job-related assignments as directed by the
Director of School Safety Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately in high-stress or emergency situations.
- Knowledge of school safety procedures and protocols.
- Ability to observe, document, and report incidents accurately.
- Commitment to fostering a safe, welcoming school environment.
- Proficiency in English; bilingual skills preferred.
- Ability to work collaboratively with administrators, staff, students, and local authorities
- High level of integrity and professionalism.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- High school diploma required.
- U.S. citizen.
- Successful completion of oral interview and background check
