Job Description
The ISFSI Security Officer provides physical protection of the Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation (ISFSI) to safeguard the facility and the public against radiological sabotage. This role ensures full compliance with Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) security requirements and site procedures while supporting overall site operations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong situational awareness, sound judgment, and the ability to operate effectively in a highly regulated, safety‑focused environment.

Charlevoix, MI (On site) Primary Responsibilities:
Provide physical protection of the ISFSI in compliance with NRC regulations (10 CFR 73) and site security procedures
Operate security computer systems and related technologies to assess alarms, investigate, and report suspicious activities
Perform personnel and vehicle searches, surveillance, and foot/vehicle patrols within protected and controlled areas
Execute armed response duties if required in accordance with site directives
Control access of personnel, vehicles, and materials into protected areas and maintain accurate logs
Complete security logs, journals, and incident reports accurately and timely
Support other site organizations by providing security assistance per established procedures
Conduct testing and routine checks of security equipment, keys, and systems
Assist with weekly, semi‑annual, and as‑needed maintenance activities for security equipment
Identify safety and fire hazards and recommend corrective actions
Report deficiencies, degradations, and incidents, and take corrective actions as directed
Perform fire watch and general site patrols while maintaining required documentation
Support site maintenance activities including snow removal, housekeeping, landscaping, and general upkeep
Perform escort and compensatory post duties as directed by Security Force Supervision
Participate in drills, training programs, and emergency preparedness exercises
Maintain compliance with fatigue management requirements and 24/7 shift coverage, including overtime as needed
Maintain all required qualifications including radiation protection, access authorization, emergency response, firearms, and physical fitness standards
Ensure adherence to all site policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
Perform other duties as assigned Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Valid driver's license required
Ability to meet all physical requirements of 10 CFR Part 73
Ability to obtain and maintain required state licenses and security qualifications
Ability to obtain and maintain annual weapons qualification
Must satisfy NRC psychological testing requirements
Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted nuclear facility access
Proficient in Microsoft Office and general computer systems
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong observation, assessment, and decision‑making abilities
High attention to detail and ability to respond to critical situations quickly and accurately
Physical stamina to perform walking, climbing, and patrol duties; ability to lift 25 lbs
