Job Description

This is a part-time position working 22-24 hours per week.
JOB OVERVIEW
The purpose of this position is to provide armed security for the courthouse, Juvenile Justice Center, Administration building, Executive building, and municipal court buildings, and to assist the public as needed. The work is performed under the supervision of Sergeant-Court Services.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Operates security screening devices such as x-ray machines, hand-held metal detectors, and walk-through detectors to detect contraband and weapons. Identifies and seizes contraband. Alerts deputies regarding contraband, weapons, and dangerous situations. Monitors and is alert to suspicious activities, odors, noise, and/ or behavior. Maintains knowledge of who is allowed access to which areas of the courthouse. Monitors court facilities for unauthorized entry, conducts regular inspections of stairwells, restrooms, and other public areas. Checks identification at employee entry and challenges unknown or suspicious persons. Conducts external foot patrols of court facilities and other county buildings as directed. Provides assistance and direction to the general public. Assists Deputy Sheriffs when necessary or as directed. Intervenes in altercations and separates arguing parties. Monitors panic alarm systems, closed-circuit TV, door access, and other security systems and follows appropriate procedures. Maintains confidentiality of records, conversations, and documents. Maintains knowledge of altercation/argument intervention techniques and courthouse security. Monitors prisoners in holding cells. Assists Deputy Sheriffs when escorting and/or transporting prisoners. Monitors radio traffic. Answers telephone, takes and relays messages. Receives deliveries. Prepares reports. Directs courthouse visitors. Ensures the safety of sequestered jurors by providing 24-hour security at the hotel in which jurors are housed. Transports jurors from their hotel to the courthouse. Escorts the victim and witnesses to their vehicles. Assists with K9 training as directed. Assures that ex-partes and emergency petitions are taken to the Field Services Unit in a timely manner. In charge of retrieving newly issued warrants and taking them to the Department of Corrections. Serves as a liaison between the Probate Court and the Field Services Unit. Ensures that Probate court orders are picked up in a timely fashion. Responds to duress alarms at Courthouse, Administration Building, Executive Building, Juvenile Detention Center, and Municipal Court. Monitors the building's exits to prevent unauthorized access. Provides security for monthly County Council meetings.
REQUIREMENTS
Education General/Technical high school diploma or GED equivalent Certifications St. Charles County Security License is required to be completed after hire. Experience 1-3 years of professional experience Law enforcement or security experience preferred. Knowledge, skills, and abilities Requires completion of departmental training with chemical weapons, Taser, defensive tactics, Narcan, gas mask, and basic handgun course, and perform annual training and qualifications as required. Employment is contingent on successfully completing a full criminal background check and psychological exam.
