Job Description
Property Security Officer Department:
University Police - 430500 Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or equivalency and demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. License/Certification Required Essential Job Functions Secure and unlock designated campus buildings in accordance with established schedules, procedures, and departmental directives. Conduct routine foot patrols of academic, administrative, residential, and other university facilities to promote safety and security, protect university property, and identify potential hazards or security concerns. Perform vehicle patrols throughout university property, including campus roadways and parking lots, to deter criminal activity, monitor for safety concerns, and observe and report suspicious activity, policy violations, and maintenance issues to the on-duty Police Supervisor. Respond to fire alarms, security alarms, and other building-related incidents as directed, conducting initial assessments and taking appropriate action in accordance with departmental procedures. Maintain a visible security presence and provide professional assistance, information, and customer service to students, employees, and visitors. Observe, document, and report violations of university policies, unsafe conditions, and security concerns through established communication and reporting channels. Serve in a primary assignment at the Belk Library and Information Commons, providing security patrol, monitoring facility conditions, responding to security-related concerns, and supporting a safe and welcoming environment for facility occupants and patrons. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position Securing designated campus buildings based on closing schedules. Must be able to communicate effectively and coherently over radio channels while initiating and responding to radio communications. Ability to recognize, identify, and report unusual, suspect, or hazardous activities or conditions across campus. Understand basic protective and security practices. Ability to perform physical functions that include working rotating shifts, walking on foot patrol, climbing stairs while physically checking doors and windows of buildings to ensure they are secured. Willingness to fill in occasionally to maintain security in Belk Library; monitor floors, ID Patrons, assist in removing patrons when necessary, monitor Technology desk, report problems to the evening library supervisor, assist AppState Police and Security as directed by that agency.
