Position Summary:
Provides safety & security for the school staff, students, authorized visitors, buildings and property through patrol of school buildings, and perimeters including parking lots to prevent unauthorized visitors or property damage. Reports to the Assistant Principal for Student Life.
Key Responsibilities:
Monitor & supervise students in school building. Provide assistance to authorized visitors, school staff and students. Provide assistance and security to authorized outside groups using school facilities during and after regular school hours. Prevent unauthorized visitors from entering or loitering on school grounds or buildings in a professional and courteous manner. Assist visitors with building directions and proper identification. Challenge unauthorized visitors and escort them to exits. Provide assistance to employees, students, or visitors when incidents occur. Maintain order and support school rules and expectations for students in the building after school hours. Report any discipline infractions, unauthorized visitors and acts of vandalism to the Principal and/or Office of Student Life. Work along with the Office of Student Life regarding lost and found, locker issues, and cafeteria coverage. Display ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel and outside groups associated with the school. Responsible for maintaining key control. Responsible for camera monitoring. Provides assistance with parking including enforcement and vehicular incidents, at the direction of the Assistant Principal for Student Life or the Assistant Administrator for Student Life. Provide security/safety for school athletic events. Works along with Campus Ministry in providing security for various retreats. Participate in regular scheduled safety/security inspections and drills. Act as liaison with evening rentals. Open doors, check on visitors, and train the evening group on security procedures. Ensure all doors are secure throughout the evening and every night before leaving the premises. Assist with student pick up. Assume responsibility when notified for Notre Dame students waiting for rides after a school or athletic event. Assist with traffic control as needed for after-hours events. Provide support, assistance, and breaks for the receptionist and teachers working after the regular school day.
Key Skills/Attributes:
Demonstrates professionalism and sensitivity when interacting with students, parents, visitors, employees, vendors, and other guests. Communicate effectively in English using proper grammar and vocabulary. Working knowledge of personal computers and related software such as Microsoft Office. Strength required to lift various items as needed in and around the school. Ability to drive, stand and walk for required periods of time, stoop, run, climb, crouch, push, jump over, pull, carry, reach above head, lift, lower, hand-wrist and elbow motion, grasp, and hold. Normal hearing and vision. Must possess a valid driver's license Ability to identify problems/concerns and in consultation with the Principal quickly takes appropriate action consistent with available facts, constraints, and anticipated consequences. Read and understand Modified Memorandum of Agreement for Catholic Schools between the Catholic Dioceses of New Jersey and Law Enforcement Agencies with 2007 Revisions.
Education and Experience Requirements:
High School diploma or equivalent and sufficient experience to demonstrate ability to handle emergency situations. One year safety/security experience in a high school environment preferred. School Crossing Guard training & certification with Lawrence Twp. Police Dept.
Other:
A background and fingerprint report will be conducted and submitted to State authorities as required by law for all personnel working within a school environment. Must be willing to undergo Catholic Diocese VIRTUS certification.
