Job Description
Job Summary The School Security Guard is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for students, staff, visitors, and school property. The security guard monitors school facilities and grounds, responds to security concerns and emergencies, enforces school safety procedures, and works closely with school administrators and emergency personnel when necessary. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Monitor school entrances, exits, hallways, classrooms, parking areas, and school grounds. Control access to the building and verify visitors according to school procedures. Conduct routine security patrols and identify potential safety hazards or security concerns. Respond promptly and appropriately to incidents, disturbances, alarms, and emergencies. Assist with emergency evacuations, lockdowns, severe-weather procedures, and other emergency responses. Maintain a visible security presence while interacting respectfully and professionally with students and staff. Enforce school safety policies and report violations or suspicious activity to appropriate school personnel. Monitor security cameras and other security equipment when assigned. Prepare accurate written reports documenting incidents, observations, and security activities. Work cooperatively with school administrators, teachers, parents, law enforcement, and emergency responders. Help maintain orderly arrival, dismissal, and student movement procedures. Protect school property and report vandalism, theft, damage, or other concerns. Maintain confidentiality regarding students, staff, and school security matters. Perform other duties as assigned by school administration. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous security, law enforcement, military, school safety, or related experience preferred. Ability to remain calm and professional during stressful or emergency situations. Strong communication, observation, and conflict-resolution skills. Ability to work effectively with children, teenagers, staff, parents, and visitors. Ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods. Must successfully complete required background checks and any applicable training or licensing requirements.
