Must meet all requirements under PA Act 67 for School Police Officers Completion of Act 120 (MPOETC) or State Police Academy or approved Law Enforcement or Military training Prior law enforcement experience Ability to work effectively with school-aged children and diverse populations Strong communication, report writing, and conflict-resolution skills Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during high-stress situations Pre-employment medical examination as required by PA School Code Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate
Job Summary:
Perform all duties of a School Police; serves as acting lead in the absence of the Safety & Security Coordinator; and assist the Safety and Security Supervisor with daily administrative and departmental operations. Responsible for ensuring a safe, secure, and orderly environment for students, staff, and visitors across district schools and facilities. The officer exercises full law enforcement authority as granted by the Court of Common Pleas and Pennsylvania law, enforcing state statutes and district policies to protect life, property, and the educational mission of the school district. This position provides proactive patrol, responds to incidents and emergencies, conducts investigations, and builds positive relationships with the school community through a professional, student-centered approach. The School Police Officer works under the direction of the Safety & Security Coordinator and collaborates with school administrators and local law enforcement to maintain a safe learning environment.

Performance Responsibilities
Patrol & Safety Monitoring:
Maintain a safe and secure campus environment through proactive patrols and supervision of school facilities, events, and daily operations. Officers work to deter threats, ensure orderly movement on campus, and support overall school safety procedures. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Patrol assigned school buildings, grounds, parking lots, and district facilities. Provide security at sporting events, extracurricular activities, and school functions. Assist with arrival/dismissal traffic control and campus access management. Participate in emergency drills (fire, lockdown, evacuation, ALICE/Run-Hide-Fight, etc.).
Law Enforcement & Legal Authority:
Enforce laws and school policies, conduct investigations, make arrests, when necessary, document incidents, and uphold legal standards and due process. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Prevent, detect, and investigate violations of law and school policy. Exercise full arrest authority granted under PA Act 67. Conduct preliminary investigations, interviews, and evidence collection. Prepare incident reports, citations, and documentation in accordance with district and legal standards. Conduct student searches when legally justified and aligned with district policy. Testify in court or school hearings when required.
Emergency Response:
Respond quickly and effectively to emergencies of any kind. Officers assess and manage critical incidents, support threat assessments, and coordinate with school and public safety partners to protect students and staff. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Respond to emergencies, alarms, medical incidents, disturbances, and safety concerns. Support threat assessment processes and behavioral risk evaluations.
Community Engagement & Relationship Building:
Build trust, positive relationships, and open communication with students, staff, and families to create a supportive and connected school environment. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Build positive relationships with students, staff, and families to support community-based policing.
Supervisory & Administrative Responsibilities:
Serve as acting lead in the absence of the Safety & Security Coordinator. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Assists the Safety & Security Coordinator with daily administrative and departmental operations as assigned.
