Other Description The Officer is responsible for understanding and applying South Carolina laws including legal codes, court procedures and regulations. Other duties include, but are not limited to the following: Acknowledge/greet every vehicle entering front gate of campus; monitor Universitys surveillance system and record observations; inspect all buildings once every hour ensuring all are secured. One must be observant of unusual activity, especially during the summer months; maintain constant radio communication; patrol all parking areas, issue citations, and tow vehicles when necessary. Constant foot patrol is required. The Safety and Security Officer must have knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective security operations for the University. Qualifications High school diploma required. Bachelors degree in a related discipline preferred. A valid South Carolina drivers license is required. The applicant must have some knowledge of safety and security procedures. Demonstrated ability to follow oral and written instructions and procedures; to react appropriately in routine and emergency situations and to utilize equipment required in the conduct of duty. The candidate must have the ability to perform administrative duties needed to document and record incidents. He/she must possess a high standard of customer service skills. Previous experience serving as a security officer or in a related capacity is strongly preferred. An equivalent combination of education and/or training indicating possession of the preceding knowledge, skills, and abilities may substitute for the preferred work experience.
