Non-Exempt Position Summary The Campus Safety and Security Shift Supervisor is responsible for overseeing Campus Safety and Security Officers during an assigned shift and ensuring the safety, security, and protection of students, faculty, staff, visitors, and College property. This position provides leadership, direction, and support to security personnel while maintaining a visible and professional presence across campus. The Shift Supervisor ensures that officers follow established policies, procedures, post orders, emergency response protocols, and reporting requirements. This position also responds to incidents, documents concerns, assists with investigations, supports campus events, and communicates regularly with the Director of Campus Safety and Security. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Supervise Campus Safety and Security Officers during assigned shifts. Assign posts, patrol areas, duties, and special assignments to officers. Monitor officer performance, attendance, professionalism, and adherence to departmental procedures. Conduct shift briefings and communicate important updates, safety concerns, and operational needs. Patrol campus buildings, grounds, parking areas, residence halls, and other assigned areas to promote a safe environment. Respond to emergencies, disturbances, suspicious activity, alarms, medical incidents, student concerns, and other campus-related incidents. Ensure proper documentation of all incidents, reports, logs, patrol activity, and shift summaries. Review incident reports for accuracy, completeness, and timely submission. Notify the Director of Campus Safety and Security of serious incidents, policy violations, emergency situations, or personnel concerns. Assist with crowd control, traffic control, parking enforcement, access control, and special event security. Support emergency procedures, including evacuations, lockdowns, severe weather response, fire alarms, and other campus safety protocols. Ensure officers maintain professional conduct when interacting with students, employees, visitors, vendors, and the public. Assist with training new officers on campus procedures, patrol expectations, report writing, communication protocols, and emergency response. Monitor security equipment, radios, cameras, access points, and other safety-related systems as assigned. Coordinate with Residence Life, Facilities, Student Affairs, Human Resources, local law enforcement, emergency responders, and other departments as needed. Maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive student, employee, security, or institutional information. Report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, lighting issues, unsecured buildings, or property damage to the appropriate department. Assist in enforcing College policies and procedures in a fair, consistent, and professional manner. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Campus Safety and Security. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous security, law enforcement, military, campus safety, or public safety experience required. Prior supervisory, lead officer, or shift leadership experience preferred. Valid driver's license required. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to write clear, accurate, and detailed incident reports. Ability to respond calmly and professionally during emergencies or stressful situations. Ability to work evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and special events as needed. Must be dependable, punctual, and able to maintain a professional appearance and demeanor. Must successfully complete any required background check, training, or certification requirements. Preferred Qualifications Experience working in a college, university, school, residence hall, or student-centered environment. Knowledge of campus safety operations, emergency response, access control, and incident reporting. CPR, First Aid, AED, de-escalation, or crisis response training preferred. Experience using radios, security cameras, access control systems, and basic computer systems. Knowledge of Clery Act reporting expectations preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong leadership and decision-making skills. Ability to supervise, guide, and support security personnel. Ability to remain calm, alert, and professional in high-pressure situations. Strong customer service and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively with students, employees, visitors, and external agencies. Ability to recognize safety risks and respond appropriately. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment. Ability to follow and enforce College policies and departmental procedures. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Work Environment This position works in both indoor and outdoor environments and may be exposed to varying weather conditions. The Shift Supervisor may work in offices, residence halls, academic buildings, parking lots, campus grounds, and special event locations. The role requires frequent interaction with students, employees, visitors, and emergency personnel. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods. Ability to respond quickly to emergency situations across campus. Ability to climb stairs, bend, reach, and move throughout campus facilities. Ability to operate radios, phones, computers, and security-related equipment. Ability to lift or move light to moderate materials, typically up to 25 pounds. Ability to work in various weather conditions when assigned to outdoor patrol or events. Work Schedule The work schedule will be determined based on departmental needs and assigned shift coverage. Evening, overnight, weekend, holiday, and special event assignments may be required.
