Job Summary:
The Explosives Detection Canine (EDC) Handler plays a crucial role in ensuring the security and safety of client locations by conducting thorough searches for explosives alongside a GWFS explosives and firearms detection canine.Duties/Responsibilities:
The EDC Handler will be paired with a GWFS explosives detection canine and will search for explosives at client locations. Searches will include, but not limited to, buildings, bags, luggage, packages, vehicles, loading docks, and persons. The EDC Handler shall liaise with clients, security personnel, law enforcement representatives, and other client partners to properly execute client security plans and procedures. The EDC Handler shall maintain professional, effective verbal and written communication with client and GWFS management. The EDC Handler shall adhere to a customer service focused mission. The EDC Handler shall maintain a professional image and demeanor and possess high quality customer service skills. The EDC Handler shall complete the multi-week, paid canine training course in Summit Point, WV, and successfully complete nationally recognized third-party canine certification. The EDC Handler shall maintain canine proficiency in accordance with GWFS policies and procedures and maintain third party certification annual requirements. The EDC Handler shall maintain day-to-day health and welfare of GWFS assigned canine and perform basic canine emergency first-aid, if necessary. The EDC Handler shall properly maintain all GWFS issued equipment and uniforms. The EDC Handler shall participate in GWFS scheduled canine training events. The EDC Handler shall obtain and maintain any state security officer licensing requirements.Required Education, Certifications, Licenses, and Experience:
Must be a US citizen. Must be at least 21 years of age. Must possess a Texas State Armed Security Guard License. Must possess a legally owned registered semi-automatic handgun (e.g. Glock, Sig Sauer). Must possess valid driver's license. Must have the ability to house and care for the canine in your personal residence. Must pass criminal background checks including drug testing. Prior experience in law Enforcement, military, or private security.Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
Prior experience as an olfactory detection canine handler (law enforcement, military unit, etc.) Standby duty willingness and availability.Work Environment:
Employees may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.Physical Requirements:
Employees may be required to remain in a stationary position, stand, push, pull, climb, kneel, crawl, balance, squat, bend, and reach during shifts. Employees may be also required to use gear to move items around, including, but not limited to, carts and dollies. Employees may also be occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 49 pounds.
