GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK
Provides various security duties within the Berkeley County Judicial Center and other locations that are part of the Court Annex as assigned. Duties may range from courtroom, front desk, control room or other assignments and may change multiple times during any day. Direction may be provided by the Chief Court Marshal or other ranking Court Marshal official.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
Greets and assists visitors to the Berkeley County Judicial Center. Provides court security which includes controlled building access, secure building perimeters and staffing designated screening points. Checks all litigants, visitors and witnesses when entering courthouse by scanning and searching personal belongings. Secures building exterior areas by checking for suspicious packages, etc. Provides security to the assigned Judge or Magistrate. Assure that inmate security is maintained. Maintains courtroom order. QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or equivalent. At least two years of experience in security, law enforcement, corrections, or other similar job where the duties are relevant to building security. Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Ability to answer inquiries and assist the public in a courteous manner. Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the public. •Comparable training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications•
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should be in overall good health to handle the mental and physical demands of the job effectively. Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time. The ability to lift, bend, and kneel without difficulty. The physical capability to subdue and/or restrain people if required.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a valid Driver's License. This position is subject to random drug screening. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential tasks.
