Job Description
Summary:
The position of Security Officer is a vibrant, community-focused role responsible for active engagement with the campus community related to safety and security. The position provides a variety of community services, responds to emergencies, and maintains and/or enforces campus rules or regulations for students, employees, and guests.
Responsibilities:
The Security Officer continuously patrols the college campus and is available to respond to requests for assistance, among other areas of responsibility. These responsibilities include engaging with the campus community, answering and responding to calls, responding to emergencies, enforcing college rules and regulations, and providing services to individuals on campus. This position reports to the Director of Security. Patrol campus buildings and grounds by vehicle and on foot to ensure safety and security. Provide initial response to complaints, emergencies, and incidents. Follow established incident response procedures, including escalating to administration and/or law enforcement as appropriate. Respond to calls for assistance or information; provide community services such as access assistance, vehicle restarts, safety escorts, etc. Enforce campus rules and regulations, document violations, and coordinate directly with local law enforcement and other public agencies when appropriate. Write detailed, concise incident reports and maintain accurate daily logs. Operate two-way radios and college vehicles. Carry college-issued equipment, including: ballistic vest, taser, and REPULS deterrent spray.
Utilize software systems including:
Colleague, Maxient, ExacqVision, SMS Enterprise, AccessIt, 25-Live, Rave alert system, and the Federal Signal alert system. Perform a variety of other duties as assigned. Use and maintain approved department equipment including radios, vehicles, and computers, including all programs utilized for the position, including but not limited to: Colleague, Maxient, Exacqvision, SMS Enterprise, 25-Live, Rave alert system, and the Federal Signal alert system. Perform a variety of other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be age 21 or older and possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Valid motor vehicle license at the time of hire and must obtain a Wyoming driver's license within 30 days of hire. Must be insurable under the College's insurance plan at the time of hire. Demonstrated critical thinking and decision-making skills. Demonstrated success in effectively managing stressful situations, intervening in conflicts, and handling difficult and/or intoxicated individuals. Demonstrated customer service skills and experience. Strong time management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and multiple tasks with frequent interruption. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability and willingness to work flexible shifts alone or with co-workers, including nights, weekends, holidays, and on short notice.
Desired Qualifications:
Associate's Degree from an accredited institution. Prior relevant training, including incident command, public safety, mental health intervention, or similar Prior law enforcement or security experience.
Certificates and Licenses:
The following certifications and trainings are required for the position, and will be organized and paid for by Casper College within 3 months of hire: CPR/AED First-Aid Stop the Bleed Blood borne pathogens ICS Introduction Courses (100, 200, 700) NarCan Axon Taser and use of force REPULS deterrent spray Successfully complete various fitness for duty assessments including: Post offer pre-employment fitness for duty physical assessment Background and motor vehicle check
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a climate control indoor environment and outdoors subject to various weather conditions. The employee regularly works near video display equipment and uses a vehicle. The employee frequently is exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee frequently works in the evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal to moderate.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk and hear. The employee must regularly lift, carry, move, push or pull up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift, carry, move, push or pull up to 50 pounds. In emergency situations, the employee may be required to lift, move, or drag individuals or objects weighing more than 100 pounds. The position also requires the ability to safely move training equipment, including practice mannequins weighing up to 125 pounds. The employee frequently is required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk. The employee is occasionally required to sit; ascend and descend ladders and ramps, climb a minimum of three flights of stairs without difficulty; run or jog short distances for emergent calls; balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; or smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
