Job Description

Performs difficult skilled technical work providing direct supervision of Latent Print Examiners, analyzing, comparing, evaluating, and verifying latent and known finger and palm print evidence, reviews cases for strict scientific methodology and quality assurance procedures, testifies as an expert witness in court and researches advancements in forensic science technology and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Forensic Services Division Assistant Supervisor.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Supervises daily activities and training of Latent Print Examiners, performs administrative tasks to include: composing and reading emails, composing internal investigative packages, composing and administering Documented Counseling, composing Corrective Action Reports and Supervisory Reviews. Prepares detailed technical reports with comprehensive bench notes of fingerprint examinations and reviews and approves examination reports; completing Administrative/Technical Reviews, serves as a resource for examiners by providing guidance and leadership; completes fingerprint examinations, accesses local, state, and federal AFIS programs to enter, search, retrieve, and compare impressions, ensures compliance with accreditation and discipline standards; maintains case files and evidence storage of latent print evidence; ensures compliance with expunction order execution; enter and edit data; work with Quality Manager to design procedures for latent print processing.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree with coursework in forensic science, biology, chemistry, criminal justice, or related field; minimum of 4 years of experience working as a Latent Print Examiner, testifying in courts, experience in a law enforcement environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification in Latent Prints through the International Association for Identification is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to provide supervision and leadership to assigned personnel; advanced knowledge of methods and standards employed in forensic science; advanced knowledge of rules of evidence; advanced knowledge of the scientific discipline of friction ridge examination and comparison; ability to maintain confidentiality; ability to use all issued equipment at the required level of proficiency; ability to use all fingerprint development techniques; knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and position specific software; ability to follow complex oral and written directions; ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing; ability to present clear and concise testimony in court; ability to work independently in the absence of direct supervision; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers and members of the public.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions, frequently requires sitting, reaching with hands and arms and tasting or smelling and occasionally requires standing, walking, speaking or hearing, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and pushing or pulling; work requires close vision with fine details for extended periods of time; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operating machines motor vehicles and observing general surroundings and activities.
WORK CONDITIONS
Work occasionally requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
International Association for Identification Latent Print Certification (within 18 months of employment if not already certified) Completion of advanced courses in latent print comparison/identification Valid Drivers License
