Background Investigators/ Recruiters perform a critical role in growing SBI's fleet of safe, service-oriented driving professionals. As a Background Investigator/ Recruiter, you will pro-actively recruit, screen, and hire qualified drivers for SBI in approved geographic regions and in accordance with company needs and guidelines, DOT regulations and Federal and State Employment Laws. You will recruit a combination of experienced & student drivers and owner operators for SBI. This position will perform background checks, run MVRs, and will help with orientation. In this position you must become competent in the entire hiring process, from the initial driver contact through the completion of orientation.
Qualifications :
This position deals with a wide variety of people, high volume of phone work. Thus, the individual must have excellent people and phone skills, be able to sell the company, as well as make the determination between qualified and unqualified applicants. This person must demonstrate exceptional communication skills, rapport building, organization skills, and computer entry skills, be a self-starter and demonstrate success working with little direction. Recruiting experience, strong sales skills, and knowledge of the trucking industry is a plus.
Essential Functions :
1. Screening of Applications a. Review and maintain driver applicant standards. b. Perform interviews to assess applicant's compatibility and skills. c. Advise applicants of status. d. Run reports, MVR, Background Check. e. Perform interviews with past employers to assess applicant's compatibility and skills. f. Perform Background Checks. g. Bring the application to the Director of Recruiting for consultation. If both agree to hire, bring application to the appropriate representative in operations for final decision. h. Make job offer. i. Coordinate orientation schedule with the Orientation Facilitator and Training Department. j. Meet with new recruits Monday morning & go over employment expectations. k. Construct Employment packet. 2. Selling of company positions a. Thoroughly understand Sherman Bros. compensation and benefits package for drivers. b. Have a working knowledge of what driving positions the company has to offer and each position's specific benefits. c. Answer the phone in a polite and courteous manner. d. Follow-up on messages and applications in a timely manner. 3.

  • When an applicant first applies, they should be categorized into a Group/Tag.
I.e.: Experience Level, Fleet Preference, Status of Application, etc. All applicants should be in a category and be tagged appropriately by status. As the applicant moves through the process they will change status. For example, once the application has been processed, we will either want to hire or not. If the decision were to Not Qualify the application, the tagged status would be "Not Qualified" and reason why i.e. Not Enough Experience, Poor MVR, Unstable Work History, etc. An applicant's "Status" is changed throughout the whole recruiting process, from Processing, Management Review, Scheduled for Orientation, DOT Ready, to Hired. 4. Miscellaneous a. Maintain knowledge of what other trucking companies are offering for pay & benefits packages. b. Meet your internal and external customer expectations. c. Track calls. d. Take new recruits to lunch during orientation. e. Perform other duties as requested. f. Maintain department goals. g. Perform check calls on drivers you have hired at the following intervals 1. 30 day 2. 60 day 3. 90 day h.

1. On the first day of orientation, greet the new recruits first thing in the morning. 2. Give general guidelines of week events. 3. Answer questions. i.

Update and Maintain Company Website Work Environment:
Professional office environment: Involves 80% sitting and working at a computer/video display terminal and 20% walking, gathering information and assisting new hires. General working hours are 8:00am
  • 5:00pm Monday through Friday.
These hours and days may change based on workload and special events/meetings.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; able to sit for long periods of time. Must be able to type on a keyboard.
