Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Guardianship Investigator to join our team and provide essential services for our client, a leading government agency within the Maryland Judiciary. This agency works closely with the Department of Juvenile and Family Services to ensure that guardianships are managed in accordance with state law, supporting vulnerable populations such as children, older adults, and individuals with disabilities. The Guardianship Monitor/Investigator will play a key role in investigating guardianship cases particularly with the adult population, assessing the needs of protected individuals, and preparing clear, concise reports to the court. This role is critical in ensuring that guardianship processes are carried out in the best interest of those under protection and in full compliance with legal standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Investigate and assess the well-being of protected persons through interviews, home visits, and the review of reports and records. Engage with protected individuals, their guardians, and other stakeholders to gather pertinent information on the welfare of the protected person. Conduct home visits as part of the assessment process, ensuring thorough documentation of findings. Prepare detailed reports and provide recommendations to the court regarding the suitability of guardianship and possible alternatives. Provide testimony in court, as needed, presenting findings from your investigations and assessments. Demonstrate professionalism, impartiality, and a thorough understanding of guardianship laws and protocols.

Qualifications:
A Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Gerontology, Criminal Justice, or a related field from an accredited institution. At least 3 years of experience working with vulnerable populations such older adults, children and individuals with disabilities, preferably as a social worker, mental health professional, or investigator. •
REQUIRED
Maryland licensure in social work, counseling, clinical psychology, gerontology, Excellent report-writing skills and the ability to prepare clear, concise, and accurate documentation. Strong investigative skills with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for travel within Maryland and occasional out-of-state travel.
Application Requirement:
As part of the candidate evaluation process, applicants must provide a professional writing sample demonstrating their ability to prepare investigative or assessment-based documentation. The writing sample should be 2-4 pages and may include examples such as: Psychosocial assessments Case summaries or investigative reports Home visit documentation Court or agency reports related to vulnerable populations All writing samples must be redacted to remove any confidential or identifying information .
Additional Requirements:
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and up to seven days a week as required by the needs of the protected persons and stakeholders. Ability to travel across various counties in Maryland, including Baltimore City. Availability to perform some remote and on-site work, depending on the investigation and assessment.
