PRIMARY PURPOSE
The Lead Web Platform Engineer manages the technical foundation of Sedgwick's enterprise web platform, with primary responsibility for platform architecture, plugin governance, Technical Search Engine Optimization (SEO) / AI Optimization (AIO) execution, release coordination, and system reliability. As a member of our Web team this role ensures that Sedgwick's web ecosystem remains discoverable, performant, scalable, and resilient. The Lead Web Platform Engineer translates SEO and AIO strategy into repeatable technical standards, partners closely with Web team, and Analytics stakeholders, and serves as the Web team's primary technical counterpart to DevOps and external development partners.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Web Platform Architecture & Governance Manages the technical architecture of the web content management system platform, including core configuration, the plugin ecosystem, and environment parity across development, staging, and production. Establishes and enforce platform standards that prioritize stability, scalability, security, and maintainability. Partners with web team members to ensure themes, blocks, and UX decisions align with Sedgwick platform standards. Reduces platform risk by minimizing custom one-off solutions and technical debt. SEO & AIO
Execution Leads the technical implementation of SEO and AIO strategy across the platform, including index and crawl rules by page type, canonical behavior and exception governance, URL structure and crawl hygiene, and structured data (schema.org) implementation. Translates SEO strategy into template-level and system-level controls rather than manual page edits. Partners with Analytics stakeholders to respond to Core Web Vitals and SEO regressions with durable technical fixes. Plugin & Integration Management Governs all web content management system plugins and third‑party integrations by evaluating, approving, upgrading, and retiring plugins and assessing performance, security, analytics, and SEO/AIO impact. Owns integrations with systems such as analytics and data layer plugins, consent management tools, marketing and form platforms, and language translation tools. Partners with DevOps to prevent plugin sprawl and duplication through clear ownership and standards. Performance, Reliability & Platform Health Owns platform-level performance outcomes, including Core Web Vitals remediation and prevention, script loading and execution patterns, and platform performance guardrails. Partners with Web Production and DevOps to support incident response, define rollback strategies, and improve platform observability. Ensures platform changes do not degrade SEO/AIO, user experience, or analytics integrity. CI/CD Coordination & Release Readiness Coordinates with DevOps on CI/CD processes without owning infrastructure or pipelines. Defines website release requirements, including SEO/AIO and Core Web Vitals impact checks, plugin and dependency validation, and rollback expectations. Supports predictable, low-risk releases as platform change volume increases.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Licensing Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Web Development or Digital Media, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Systems / Information Technology from an accredited college or university preferred. A degree in a related technical field is preferred; however, equivalent practical experience in enterprise web platform engineering, technical SEO/AIO implementation, CMS architecture, and system reliability may be considered in lieu of formal education. Experience Eight (8) years of professional web engineering experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Demonstrated experience supporting high-volume, campaign-driven websites within enterprise environments Experience building and maintaining enterprise web platforms, including WordPress architecture, plugin ecosystems, and reusable systems, with exposure to international or multilingual websites and collaboration with DevOps under security and governance constraints. Skills & Knowledge Strong understanding of Core Web Vitals, performance diagnostics, and front-end performance optimization techniques Working knowledge of technical SEO principles, including crawlability, indexing, structured data, and page‑level performance signals Familiarity with SEO tools (Semrush, RankMath) and digital analytics platforms (Google Analytics) Knowledge of AI Optimization (AIO) best practices and their impact on search visibility and content discovery Understanding of enterprise web platform governance, including standards, guardrails, and risk reduction Familiarity with CI/CD concepts and release coordination in collaboration with DevOps teams Awareness of security, compliance, and maintainability considerations in enterprise web environments Ability to provide technical guidance, reviews, and standards enforcement across internal teams and external partners Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, matrixed environment
