Job Description:
The Access Services Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Access Services department within the library, including circulation, reserves, interlibrary loans, facilities issues, and space management. This position ensures effective and efficient library access services and space usage, working closely with staff and librarians to enhance the user experience and optimize library resources. The AS Manager supervises staff, creates and manages workflows, and collaborates with library colleagues to improve library operations and services.
Main Responsibilities:
Manage circulation operations, including check-out/check-in processes, fines, and account management. Oversee the implementation of policies related to library materials, including borrowing, renewals, and returns. Hire, supervise, train, and schedule Access Services staff, including student workers. Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and service-oriented work environment. Serve as a point of contact for library patrons regarding access services, troubleshooting issues related to library materials, and answering general inquiries. Promote and communicate library services and resources effectively to students, faculty, and staff. Manage course reserves, ensuring timely processing and availability of materials. Oversee the ILL program, ensuring that materials are requested, received, and distributed in a timely manner. Manage ILL policies, workflows, and communication with other libraries to ensure smooth operations. Prepare and submit regular reports on access services usage, space utilization, trends, and outcomes. Monitor inventory, stacks organization, and materials availability Oversee the use of library spaces to ensure optimal access and usage by students and faculty. Work with the Facilities Management team to address space and equipment concerns. Maintain and troubleshoot library ILS circulation systems, reserves processes and ILL systems Assist in the evaluation and implementation of new technologies to improve user access and streamline department operations.
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree Minimum 2 years full-time experience in access services or a similar department within a library Supervisory experience and demonstrated ability to successfully manage and develop employees Familiarity with library services platforms (e.g., Alma, Primo, Springshare) Experience collaborating with colleagues and departments across the organization Service orientation and ability to model excellent customer service to staff Superior organizational and project management skills Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Technology acumen and troubleshooting skills Demonstrated ability to create an inclusive and supportive environment for students and staff
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience managing library access services Experience supervising student employees Experience creating work processes, systems and workflows to improve efficiency.
Additional Information:
This is a full-time (35 hrs/week), 12-month position.
Annual Salary:
$64,360 •The hiring salary above represents the University's good faith estimate at the time of posting in compliance with the Albany County Salary Transparency Law. Siena University offers a generous benefit package to eligible full-time employees.
