Job Description
PSYCHIATRIC TECHNICIAN
Qualification Requirements All Temporary/Relief Psychiatric Technicians assigned to a Correctional Facility must have the minimum experience outlined below: Twelve (12) continuous months of experience within the last three (3) years performing services similar in scope to those defined herein in a public or private institution. Internship does not count toward the required experience. Possess and maintain, while providing services to the Correctional Facility, a current and valid license issued by the California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians in order to perform services in the State of California. Any Temporary/Relief Psychiatric Technicians providing services through this agreement must be proficient in the English language and able to communicate effectively with the Correctional Facility. All Temporary/Relief Psychiatric Technicians must be able to speak, understand oral and written communication, and write effectively in English. Any individual who fails to meet these minimum qualifications shall not be permitted to perform services. Service Delivery Requirements Under the direction of the Institution's CEO/CNE or designee, the Temporary Relief Psychiatric Technician shall provide services as permitted within the scope of practice in accordance with facility policies and procedures. Duties include, but are not limited to: a. Provide a basic level of general behavioral and psychiatric nursing care to mentally or developmentally disabled patients/youth; b. Conduct daily clinical rounds and monitor patients/youth with signs and symptoms of mental illness; c. Under general supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Medical Doctor (MD), perform psychiatric nursing procedures such as administering medications and treatments, including hypodermic injections, and taking and charting temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiration, and other basic nursing procedures within scope of licensure; d. Work with other disciplines as part of the Treatment Team in developing treatment plans and objectives based on assessments; e. Assist in the development of group and individual therapy regimens and serve as a provider of group therapy; f. Provide liaison activities with custody personnel in managing mentally or developmentally disabled patients/youth; g. Observe patients'/youths' physical condition and behavior, and report significant changes; h. Prepare and coordinate clinical appointment dates and times, and assist in ensuring patients/youth attend appointments; i. Assist in first responder duties, including providing CPR and first aid as needed; j. Follow all documentation procedures completely and accurately as required by the Correctional Facility; and k. Help create a safe, secure, and therapeutic environment for patients/youth.Pay:
