Position Title:

Position Summary:
Teachers will be expected to effectively create and deliver curriculum that is grade, subject, and content specific in a thoughtful, meaningful, and purposeful way to school aged children using a standards based curriculum. Units of study and individual lessons are to be created to enrich and deepen the education of all students that at times include interdisciplinary connections, on-site, and off-site experiences. The position will entail collaborating with grade level teams, working with district teams, working with teachers around literacy strategies and providing intervention for students.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree with an applicable Maine Department of Education teacher endorsement eligibility required. Master's degree and/or specialized training with an emphasis on literacy education are highly desirable and preferred. Minimum of 3 years of successful classroom teaching experience required. Experience in literacy intervention and/or instructional coaching preferred.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The responsibilities outlined below are representative and do not encompass or define all tasks that may be required by this position. Develop and maintain a selection criteria for identifying students in need of direct literacy intervention and instruction programming. Provide direct small group literacy instruction and support to identified students using research based intervention materials, resources, and strategies. Develop and maintain a literacy curriculum that demonstrates understanding of specific grade level standards. This work will be done in collaboration with building/district ELA teachers and/or literacy specialists. Provide literacy instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education, using grade level fiction and non-fiction texts for planning and delivering reading/writing lessons, activities and assignments. Communicate with parents and staff for the purpose of planning individualized literacy intervention and the periodic reporting of student growth and achievement. Schedule and attend regular meetings with grade level and team teachers to monitor and discuss individual student growth regarding reading and writing progress', provide professional development to staff in the form of training, information sharing, resources, and literacy strategies. Collect and maintain individual student achievement and growth data that is periodically shared with parents and necessary school personnel. Maintain a current teaching certification that supports the position of Literacy Intervention Specialist by participating in or attending relevant literacy professional development ie: courses, seminars, webinars, conferences etc. Periodically consult with the school librarian to develop the physical collection of books to include a variety of Lexile levels. Create and submit an annual classroom and program budget that reflects the needs of running an effective literacy program. Implement teaching strategies and approaches to support students with special service needs (IEP). Perform other duties as necessary that support the implementation and maintenance of a vibrant literacy program. Support teachers in strengthening their literacy instruction. Facilitate collaboration among staff on literacy practices. Provide ongoing professional development to staff in the area of literacy.
