Literacy Specialist (Temporary) Goldsmith-Schiffman Elementary School Alabama State Department of Education - 4.5 Huntsville, AL Job Details Temporary 22 hours ago Qualifications Teaching Certification Subject-specific Teaching Certification Bachelor's degree in education Full Job Description Job Title Literacy Specialist Job Code CI-151 Job Grade Teacher's Schedule Job Goal To provide guidance and instruction to students within the Huntsville City School System through explicit and systematic research-based intervention that will contribute to their development as mature, able, responsible, and productive citizens. Reports To Deputy Superintendent of Instruction Supervises N/A Essential Duties and Responsibilities Supports the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Dyslexia program at schools as assigned, consistent with district vision, policies, goals, and strategies and in alignment with applicable state and national standards. Assists administrators and teachers to organize and interpret assessment data of struggling readers and/or students who exhibit characteristics of dyslexia. Utilizes best practice instructional strategies and evidence/research-based intervention curriculum materials to meet the learning needs of identified struggling readers and/or students who exhibit characteristics of dyslexia. Provides daily targeted intervention to struggling readers and/or students who exhibit characteristics of dyslexia so that reading goals are achieved. Collaborates with administrators, general and special education teachers, reading specialists, and interventionists concerning the academic progress of struggling readers and/or students who exhibit characteristics of dyslexia and the appropriate utilization of intervention strategies. Provides support to classroom teachers through coaching in a comprehensive and collaborative approach in the implementation of Tier 3 intervention curriculum(s). Analyzes existing student achievement data and administers student assessment and progress monitoring instruments as needed to aid in progress monitoring of struggling readers and/or students who exhibit characteristics of dyslexia. Provides support to the building level Response to Intervention (RTI) and Problem-Solving Teams (PST) in developing individualized learning plans for struggling readers and/or students who exhibit characteristics of dyslexia. Utilizes best practice instructional strategies and evidence/research-based intervention curriculum materials to meet the learning needs of identified struggling readers and/or students who exhibit characteristics of dyslexia. Collects and maintains proper and accurate documentation (i.e., student files, various records, confidential data, etc.) for the purpose of recording activities, providing reliable information, identifying student progress to develop prescriptive instruction, and ensuring compliance with applicable guidelines and regulations. Maintains research-based knowledge in state and national trends and best practices within curriculum and instructional practices; reviews current developments, literature, and technical sources of information; and utilizes knowledge to ensure ongoing improvements are implemented. Attends professional development opportunities that promotes improved instructional strategies and supports research-based resource material needed to implement the intervention program successfully and support/maintain professional growth. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. •The essential duties and responsibilities in this document are not all-inclusive. Qualifications A Bachelor's Degree in Education from an accredited university and valid Alabama teaching certification with appropriate subject area endorsement(s) and grade level. Must possess and maintain a valid state teaching certificate. Physical Requirements Exerts 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, 10-25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly. Terms of Employment Nine-month year.
