Job Description
Position Overview We are seeking an experienced and motivated Litigation Paralegal to join our Pittsburgh office. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of litigation experience, preferably with exposure to labor, employment, ERISA, bankruptcy, or complex commercial litigation matters. Experience in all areas listed below is not required; however, the successful candidate must demonstrate a strong willingness to learn, take initiative, and grow within a sophisticated litigation practice. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with attorneys on complex matters involving withdrawal liability, controlled group liability, delinquent contributions, and related litigation and compliance issues. Key Responsibilities Assist attorneys with all phases of litigation, including case management, discovery, trial preparation, and document organization.
Support matters involving:
Building and construction industry exemption Transactions intended to evade or avoid withdrawal liability Successor, alter ego, and single-employer liability Partial withdrawal liability matters, including: 70% decline claims Bargaining outs Facility takeouts Calculation and analysis of withdrawal liability Controlled group liability issues Interplay between ERISA and the Bankruptcy Code Enforcement of the "pay now, dispute later" rule Laches defenses Recovery of delinquent contributions from active employers Organize, review, and summarize legal and financial documents. Prepare pleadings, correspondence, discovery materials, and case-related filings. Conduct factual and legal research as directed by attorneys. Maintain case files, deadlines, and litigation calendars. Coordinate with clients, opposing counsel, courts, and third-party vendors. Assist with hearing, arbitration, mediation, and trial preparation. Qualifications Minimum of 5 years of litigation paralegal experience. Experience with complex litigation, ERISA, labor and employment, bankruptcy, or commercial litigation preferred. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Detail-oriented with the ability to work independently and collaboratively. Strong willingness to learn specialized areas of law and litigation strategy.
