Job Description
Load & Haul Mechanic (Diesel Mechanic) is responsible for the repair and maintenance of the load & haul equipment to ensure production needs are met in a safe, timely, and efficient manner. Work in a safe manner and promote safety among co-workers. Use and promote Stop Work Authority to prevent injury or damage. Comply with all safety & environmental regulations, MSHA & DOT regulations, and company policies. Fulfill preventative maintenance program requirements. Perform general maintenance and inspection of brakes, drive lines, tires, engines, fluid systems and frames on L&H equipment. Perform PM's on a set preventative maintenance schedule. Keep records required for completion of scheduled maintenance and repairs. Examines protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices on trucks and all other support equipment. Sample fluids. Routine troubleshooting and repairs on mobile (L&H, Plant & Mine) equipment and support equipment. Order parts, oil, fuel and supplies to maintain productivity. Interpret information from operator sourced deficiency reports for use in troubleshooting. Clean parts, tools and working area. Cutting and welding with gas and electric. Perform and assist with plant mobile maintenance as needed Fueling and lubrication of equipment. Operate equipment as required at the Plant, Mine, or Load & Haul. Assist as a mine mechanic at the Vale mine site when needed. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) Required. Class A CDL license with doubles/tanker endorsement or ability to obtain one. Two plus years of maintenance experience. Strong technical and troubleshooting skills. Electrical, Hydraulic, Pneumatic, Powertrain, Brakes, Electronics. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating manuals, maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Computer skills - Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook preferred Ability to work with a high degree of independence and urgency. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively (written and verbal). Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Attention to quality and detail required Ability to schedule and manage time efficiently while driving results. Must be self-motivated and self-directed.
