Freight Invoice Auditor The Freight Invoice Auditor is responsible for accurately auditing carrier freight invoices in alignment with contracted rates and customer requirements. This role supports day-to-day audit operations by reviewing invoices, identifying discrepancies, and ensuring the timely resolution of issues with carriers and customers. The ideal candidate will have experience in freight audit/payment processes, strong attention to detail, and a foundational understanding of transportation operations, including carrier contracts, pricing structures, and billing practices. Responsibilities Review and interpret customer contracts and carrier agreements to accurately audit freight invoices and ensure alignment with contracted rates. Identify, investigate, and resolve discrepancies between billed charges and contracted pricing, including managing balance dues and exceptions with carriers and customers. Process and validate freight invoices using audit/payment systems, TMS platforms, and internal tools, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in line with SLAs. Serve as a primary point of contact for audit and freight payment inquiries, supporting both customers and carriers while maintaining strong working relationships. Maintain accurate documentation of audit activity, including findings, adjustments, and communications. Collaborate with internal teams to support information flow, resolve issues, and drive continuous improvement in audit processes. Follow and support established audit procedures, SOPs, and ticketing workflows to ensure consistent and efficient operations. Assist with freight payment processing across multiple transportation modes, including LTL, Truckload, Bulk, Drayage, Rail, and international shipments. Support new customer implementations by assisting with audit and billing setup requirements. Provide general operational support as needed, including call center assistance, mail handling, and other departmental tasks. Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned. Exemption Type Non-Exempt (Hourly) Job Requirements Qualifications 2-5 years of experience in transportation operations, logistics coordination, supply chain, customer operations, or a related field preferred.Transportation Operations Knowledge:
Basic to intermediate understanding of Less-than-Truckload (LTL) and Bulk transportation operations. Familiarity with shipment scheduling, tracking, routing guides, freight execution, and carrier communication processes. Understanding of freight terminology including NMFC classifications, accessorial charges, transit expectations, and shipment visibility. Knowledge of additional transportation modes such as Drayage, Intermodal, Rail, and Parcel is a plus. Ability to interpret customer routing guides, operational SOPs, shipment instructions, and carrier requirements. Understanding of transportation service expectations, appointment scheduling, and milestone tracking processes.Customer Service & Communication Skills:
Strong customer service mindset with the ability to communicate professionally with customers, carriers, and internal operational teams. Ability to provide proactive shipment updates, resolve transportation issues, and manage customer expectations in a fast-paced environment. Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills with the ability to escalate operational concerns appropriately. Ability to collaborate effectively across operations, brokerage, procurement, carrier relations, and account management teams.Technical Skills:
Experience working with Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and transportation visibility platforms preferred. Experience with Descartes/3GTMS or similar transportation platforms is a plus. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Excel and Outlook. Beginner to intermediate Excel skills including sorting, filtering, pivot tables, and basic formulas. Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate shipment data, tracking milestones, and operational updates. Ability to multitask, prioritize workload, and manage multiple shipments simultaneously while meeting deadlines. Preferred Qualifications Experience working in a managed transportation, brokerage, customer operations, or third-party logistics (3PL) environment. Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or related field preferred but not required. Exposure to transportation optimization initiatives such as LTL-to-TL consolidations, stop-off optimization, routing efficiency, and spot quote management. Experience supporting customers within chemical, industrial, manufacturing, retail, or life sciences industries is a plus.
