Position Summary:
: The Carroll School seeks teaching candidates with a growth mindset and a true passion and commitment to lifelong learning. Candidates who are motivated by helping students to attain a strong sense of identity, self-worth and who are eager to equip students with skills and strategies for academic success. The ideal candidate brings a collaborative style, is self-directed, child-centered, and values a community of highly engaged, compassionate, motivated educators who embrace and apply culturally responsive teaching practices. We are seeking candidates with experience and/or interest in teaching students with language-based learning differences and who are drawn to acquire the necessary competencies to successfully teach our type of learners.
Responsibilities:
This position is based in the 5th grade team, and teaches intervention classes in multiple grade levels. The specific teaching schedule will depend on the needs of the school, based on enrollment. Serve as the Homeroom teacher/ Advisor for 8-10 students. Act as primary liaison between the school and the families of assigned students Provide targeted instruction: work with students one-on-one, in pairs, and in small reading and/ or math groups, teaching reading concepts and strategies using the Orton-Gillingham approach, RAVE-O, and other methodologies needed by the student group Partner regularly with classroom teachers and Department Heads to share information about each student's acquisition of language skills and adjust program based on students' overall performance through a culturally responsive lens Create and implement appropriate lesson plans based on students' levels. Research and select learning materials and books to facilitate tutoring; design and customize multi-sensory materials Develop positive working relationships with all constituencies: Students, parents, colleagues and administration. Administer curriculum-based and annual assessments and write reports addressing progress and areas of concern as part of the report writing system Attend regularly scheduled departmental meetings, all faculty meetings, and child study meetings as needed Attend parent conferences four times a year or as needed Participate in school-sponsored professional development and meet the requirements of Orton-Gillingham and RAVE-O training Work in the extended day program for at least 1 session a year for the first three years (fall, winter or spring).
