Job Description
Job Summary We are seeking a highly organized and customer-focused LTL Account Manager to oversee daily Less-Than-Truckload (LTL) freight operations within a fast-paced transportation brokerage environment. This role is responsible for managing customer shipments from pickup through delivery, maintaining strong carrier relationships, solving service issues proactively, and protecting company margin through disciplined operational execution. The ideal candidate understands LTL pricing, carrier networks, accessorial management, and customer communication at a high level. This is a critical role that directly impacts service performance, retention, and profitability. Key Responsibilities Customer Management Serve as the primary operational contact for assigned customer accounts Manage daily shipment activity including pickup scheduling, tracking, tracing, and exception management Build strong relationships with customers through consistent communication and service execution Provide proactive updates regarding delays, damages, shortages, or service disruptions Maintain high customer retention through responsiveness and operational excellence LTL Operations Coordinate and execute LTL shipments across national and regional carrier networks Select carriers based on service requirements, transit times, pricing, and profitability Ensure shipment details are entered accurately into the TMS system Manage appointments, reconsignment requests, liftgate needs, residential deliveries, limited access locations, and other accessorial requirements Audit shipment details to minimize billing disputes and prevent avoidable charges Pricing & Margin Management Understand tariff structures, fuel surcharges, deficit pricing, and accessorial charges Protect company gross margin through disciplined carrier selection and pricing execution Identify opportunities to consolidate freight or improve routing efficiency Assist pricing teams with spot quotes and customer-specific pricing requests Escalate low-margin or high-risk shipments appropriately Problem Resolution Resolve shipment exceptions quickly and professionally Coordinate claims support for damages, shortages, and service failures Work cross-functionally with carrier sales, pricing, accounting, and leadership teams Handle high-pressure situations calmly while maintaining professionalism with customers and carriers Compliance & Documentation Ensure shipment documentation is complete and accurate Follow internal SOPs and compliance procedures Maintain accurate records inside the TMS and CRM systems Support audit readiness and operational visibility Qualifications 2+ years of experience in LTL brokerage, transportation, or logistics operations preferred Strong understanding of LTL carrier networks, tariffs, and freight classifications Experience working inside a TMS platform (Revenova, McLeod, Tai, Turvo, etc.) preferred Ability to multitask and prioritize in a high-volume environment Strong communication and relationship-building skills Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving ability Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and operational software systems Preferred Experience Experience with national and regional LTL carriers Knowledge of NMFC classifications and accessorial structures Exposure to pricing/rating platforms such as SMC3, Banyan, or carrier APIs Experience handling high-volume customer accounts Understanding of margin management and operational KPIs Performance Metrics On-time pickup and delivery performance Gross margin performance Customer retention and satisfaction Shipment accuracy and billing accuracy Claims ratio and exception resolution speed Quote-to-book conversion support Operational productivity and shipment volume handled Compensation Annual base earnings of $50,000-$60,000 with OTC of approximately $75,000.
