Job Description

Under limited supervision the Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) is responsible for the delivery of patient care utilizing the nursing processes of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. In the
ORCHARD HOSPITAL
Medical Specialty Center environment, the LVN must work interdependently with other health care professionals to provide quality health care to our patients. The LVN will be responsible for performing both administrative and clinical skills within their scope of practice.
ORCHARD HOSPITAL
Medical Specialty Center LVNs will be responsible for becoming familiar with both house wide and department specific policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED equivalent. Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing and currently licensed or eligible for licensure by the state of California. Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services; this includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. One year experience in a clinic setting preferred but not required. Current BLS certificate. Pediatric experience preferred by not required.
Job Requirements:
Answering phones and scheduling appointments; Greet patients, assure completion of registration forms, and give instructions. Filing and maintaining medical records; Preparing and typing correspondence; Processing, coding, and completing insurance claim forms; Processing mail; Ordering and maintaining supplies, medications, and equipment; Arranging for hospital admissions and outside referrals for the physician; Calling prescriptions to the pharmacy for the physician; Performing computer tasks for the physicians such as AllScripts, LabCorp, and LabDAQ; Communication skills using appropriate medical terminology; Following appropriate legal, ethical, and professional conduct at all times; Attends monthly staff meetings as required. Participates in quality assurance and procedure improvement programs; Check Orchard Hospital e-mail a minimum of once each shift and respond appropriately. Listens to voice mail a minimum of twice each scheduled shift and returns patient phone calls on a daily basis. Maintain a log of all phone calls received and made. Measuring and recording vital signs, including pain level; Recording patient interview, history, and chief complaint; Performing a comprehensive physical assessment of the patient; Performing EKGs (after additional training) when necessary and ordered by a physician; Prepare patient for examinations and performing routine screening tests; Assisting the physician with exams and minor office procedures; Change dressings, applying bandages, and other first aid procedures; Performing sterile dressing changes; Apply splint materials (with additional training) when ordered by a physician; Performing skin tests as ordered by the physician; and interpreting them. Performing intradermal, subcutaneous, and intramuscular injections; Obtaining intravenous access when necessary and ordered by a physician; The collection of lab specimens ; Performing simple laboratory tests within the LVN scope of practice; Assist physician with patient teaching as it is appropriate; Aid in identifying the overall learning needs of the patient; Being aware of and supporting the psychosocial, spiritual, religious, and cultural needs of our patients. Perform CPR when required; Disposing of biohazard waste according to OSHA standards; Practicing OSHA safety standards; Performing accurate, legal, and ethical documentation of all patient care activities at all times.
