Come join our dynamic craft school located in western MA, just 15 minutes from Northampton. This is a great opportunity to advance your knowledge in the areas of our studios, gain insight into the operations of a robust craft school, and train on specialized equipment.Learn the unique characteristics of our studios:
Fibers, Flameworking, Metalsmithing, 2D & Mixed Media, 3D & Mixed Media, Ceramics, Flat Glass and Woodworking. This position actively works with the Studio Director and the Studio Manager to keep the studios clean,anized, functional and fully prepared for our 200+ workshops. The studios are utilized by over 150 different instructors and 1000 students throughout the workshop season.
The school campus covers 50 acres of land, with varied elevations, so you must befortable walking long distances throughout the day. Prior studio experience is preferred. This position is full-time. Your schedule will vary depending on the needs of classes, and will include weekend hours. Includes paid vacation, holidays, and sick days; an annual $2000 health reimbursement, lunches from our Dining Hall when the workshops are in session, and accrual towards free/reduced workshops. Responsibilities Include:
Learn the unique characteristics of all studios through on-the-job training, including the basics of opening and closing the studios - this will cover lights, safety, cleaning, etc, appropriate studio safety, w and how all supplies are stored, tool care and equipment use.You will be familiar with our studio schedule and workflow through training with our Studio Management team and provide crucial support in keeping studios appropriately clean and stocked throughout our open season. prepare studios for each workshop session which includes: cleaning the interior of the studio, sweeping/mopping, wiping off table and counter surfaces, cleaning up sink area, dusting, restocking paper towels, masks, trash bags, soap, making sure heat or air conditioner is on, sorting supplies, cleaning tools, disposing of trash, putting out the proper tools and materials needed for each specific workshop. Interact respectfully with a diverse group of instructors and students, with a variety of needs, backgrounds, experiences, and expectations. Update inventories of supplies and equipment for each studio; check tools, materials, and equipment inventory after each class and all tools are in functional condition after each workshop. Inform Studio Manager of any supplies that need to be re-ordered. Submit repair requests to the Studio Director. Work with the Studio Manager to gather, pack and mail all pieces made in the glass studios and clay studios that need mailing to students. Be familiar with shipping procedures and mailing costs. Assist with any student work that will be picked up in person. with supply and material deliveries; confirm quantities and quality of material ordered, take to appropriate studios and restock as needed. Weekend support during the months of May - November is expected in order to maintain smooth operations and to have a knowledgeable staff member on site during workshops. These weekends are assigned and d by the Studio/Facility Team. Assist Property Manager to lift heavy objects together, provide assistance when a property job requires two people,while adhering to all necessary safety precautions. Assist with the Seconds Sale fundraiser after the last workshop in late October through November - a fundraiser that is 3 weekends in November. clear studios, move furniture, set up studios for work, pack and ship art back to the artists. This position will be scheduled for shifts for all 3 weekends, including Black Friday/Thanksgiving weekend. We encourage qualified candidates to , and we are an equal opportunity employer.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree Minimum of 2 years of work experience (preferred nonprofit) Proficiency in Google Workspace Experience with craft mediums such as textiles, glass, or making Strong self-direction, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills Demonstrated interest in professional growth within the role Ability to lift up to 100 lbs Comfortable climbing stairs and remaining active/on your feet for extended periodsSimilar remote jobs
