Machine Shop Assistant

Job Description Under the supervision of the Operations Manager, this position operates various machine shop equipment including but not limited to: manual Lathes, various saws, cutters and other shop equipment and tools. This position may also perform part finishing, assembling, cleaning, and deburring as well as other production activities. Must have the ability to follow directions, interact effectively with co-workers, understand and follow rules and procedures. This position may also be required to perform the functions of the Materials Handler as needed (i.e. shipping, receiving, inventory, wooden box building). Duties and Responsibilities Movement of materials. Operate machinery or tools used in the production process or assist machine operators. Lift raw materials, finished products, and packed items, manually, with overhead crane or forklift. Load and unload items from machines. Examine products to verify conformance to quality standards. Checking dimensions of workpiece during the machining operation using provided tools. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus Required Experience/Skills Strong attention to detail and ability to identify errors. Must be able to read prints (drawings) for machining, measurement and assembly of components. Ability to work with power tools and other shop equipment as needed. Manufacturing mindset of urgency and quality. Time Management. General computer knowledge. Mechanical aptitude needed to perform work safely and productively.

Language Skills:

Must be able to communicate effectively, in English, both orally and in writing. General knowledge of overhead crane operation a plus, forklift operation a must.
