Job Description

Accountability:
A Machinist Specialist performs a wide range of duties including intermediate set up, adjustment and operation of CNC and/or manual Machine Tools.
Scope and Responsibilities:
Essential duties include, but are not limited to the following: Setup, adjust, check, and operate machining centers to perform a series of machining and turning operations on a diversified line of work to close tolerances and finish specifications requiring a considerable degree of skill, knowledge of machining techniques, and familiarity with numerical CNC machine tool operational procedures. Setups involve familiarity with and understanding of program formats involving combinations of operations such as milling, turning, boring, recessing, drilling, tapping, etc., on a variety of materials to the capability of the machines and control systems. Translate rotary commands into Cartesian coordinate moves in the milling and drilling of parts. Apply working knowledge of Siemans programming language in order to read, run and improve programs. Setup tooling, per requirements. Maximize efficiency of cutting operations and tool life by applying knowledge of feeds, speeds and

insert classifications. Setup and operate inspection equipment (i.e. tesa mics, jo blocks, tool & part probes, OD & ID micrometers, depth micrometer, calipers, dial indicators) to maintain sizes and tolerances (often less than .001"). Assume responsibility for the quality of workmanship, dimensional accuracy and efficient mechanical operations. Utilize available time when machine has a long cycle (i.e. operate both machines at the same time, set-up tooling for next job, retrieve and flip castings, etc.) Make own crane hook ups and operate crane, as required. Training to be provided Follow work rules, policies, and safety procedures in performing all tasks. Work from program data and setup instructions to arrange as provided, mount, and secure tooling; mount, align, and secure holding fixtures and/or locate support and camp workpiece; set stops, calibrate to reference points; use of dividing head and/or indexing fixture and dial indicators. Load programs and manually cycle machine through operation sequence to check fixture, tooling, and work alignment, set boring tools, tooling operational sequences, clearances, speeds, feeds, etc., and adjust machine to correct. Create setup documentation including pictures, equipment lists etc. to aid in the subsequent production runs. Responsible for recognizing and reporting errors in programming and operations whenever possible, and assisting systems and programming personnel to correct errors, and may also edit PPS. Recommend tooling applications and operational sequences to assist in formulating practical programming for new and unusual machine operations. Diagnose operating difficulties and make appropriate adjustments to correct operations or dimensional deviations. Work from drawings, specifications, programs, setup instructions, and other data on a wide range of small and medium sized parts, which can involve complex configurations and close tolerances. May occasionally be required to lay out work and perform machine operations without the use of pre-programmed material using manual data input. Proceed with a minimum of direction and supervision. Maintain work area in a clean and orderly manner. Detect and report any unusual conditions to supervision. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Technical Certificate or equivalent from technical school; or 2-4 years related experience and/or training.

Must be able to follow safety procedures Must be able to follow company policies Must be dependable, honest & maintain a positive attitude Must be able to maintain a clean & organized work area Must be able to work in a teamwork atmosphere Must be able to communicate by listening, speaking & writing Must be able to operate a computer(i.e. Windows) Must be able to perform basic shop math skills (i.e. addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, charts, tables) Must be able to set up and operate a large vertical turning center to product tight tolerance components Ability to read blueprints (metric & English) Ability to setup tooling Ability to operate a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine Ability to learn how to read, write & edit part programs (G & M-codes) Ability to edit work & tooling offsets Ability to work with close tolerances (.0002") Ability to use inspection equipment (i.e. tape measure, rule, gauge blocks, OD & ID micrometers, depth micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, bore gauges, Tesa & Mueller gauges) Ability to operate a crane (lifting, moving, flipping large parts) Ability to use material moving equipment (i.e. fork lift, motorized-hand cart) Ability to follow work instructions Ability to work with minimum direction & supervision Ability to problem solve Ability to work on continuous improvement as needed Knowledge of cutting feeds & speeds Knowledge of probing (Renishaw Cycles) Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) Knowledge of cutting inserts Knowledge of Siemans controls a plus
