SUMMARY:
A machinist/tool and die maker is a skilled professional who will be responsible for operating machine tools to create, modify, or repair precision parts and instruments. They will cut, shape, finish, and maintain tools made of metal and will forge diecasts to create molds.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Along with those identified below, other duties may be assigned. Set-up and operate all equipment in Machine Shop Production Cells. Set-up and operate Resolver Grinders and Hone. Operate the production cell to the current standard work method or methods. Maintain all cell and production order documentation. Maintain high degree of quality and productivity. Set-up and operate various manual mills, lathes and grinders, in addition must have a working knowledge of heat treating. Work with tool steels (A6, D2, Powder Metals and others). Work from engineering and manufacturing engineering drawings, sketches, or ideas to produce production tooling and repair of production tooling. Suggest improvements in design of manufacturing tooling and machining methods to produce this tooling. Assists in training manufacturing personnel in the set-up and use of production tooling. Perform daily minor maintenance on the equipment they are assigned to operate. Maintain machine shop production cell 5S status.
QUALIFICATIONS
(EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE): To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty noted above satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. High School education or GED equivalent 5 years' experience operating and setting up resolver grinder, hones, mills and lathes preferred Must be able to substantiate shop math skills including geometry and trigonometry. Must be able to program Haas indexing heads and the Ezee
  • Trac controller.
Must have own basic inspection tooling (0-1" Mic, 6" dial calipers, 1" to 3" depth Mic and Indicator with Mag. Base).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be able to reason, understand, carryout daily tasks and functions prescribed by supervisor and work procedures assigned either individually or in cell/team environment. Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English and all written work procedures, guidelines. Must be capable of reading and interpreting customer specifications and general instructions from engineering and/or manufacturing personnel. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
COMPENSATION
