Machinist / Machine Builder

Overview Puritan Automation (A Ventech Group company) is seeking an experienced Machinist / Machine Builder with strong manual-machining skills and a hands-on mechanical background. This is not a CNC production position. We are looking for an individual who is comfortable working in a prototype and custom-machine environment utilizing manual mills, lathes, grinders, saws, and general toolroom equipment to manufacture, modify, repair, and fit custom machine components. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, capable of working independently from drawings or sample parts, and enjoys diverse work involving machining, fabrication, machine assembly, troubleshooting, and equipment development. Responsibilities Operate manual mills, lathes, surface grinders, drill presses, saws, and other toolroom equipment Machine and modify custom parts from drawings, sketches, or existing components Perform precision fitting, drilling, tapping, boring, reaming, and layout work Measure and verify dimensions using micrometers, calipers, indicators, height gauges, and other precision instruments Assist with the assembly, rebuild, and repair of custom industrial machinery and automation equipment Troubleshoot mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems Interpret mechanical drawings and determine practical machining/manufacturing methods Support prototype development, machine modifications, and in-house equipment improvements Perform occasional welding, fabrication, and field-service support as required Desired Experience Strong experience with manual machining (Bridgeport mills, engine lathes, grinders, etc.) Experience working in a toolroom, prototype, repair, or custom-machine environment Ability to machine precision components independently Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability Experience with machine building, automation equipment, pneumatics, or hydraulics preferred Welding and fabrication experience is a plus CNC experience is acceptable, but manual-machining capability is essential
