Job Title:
Maintenance Technician Job Description The Maintenance Technician installs, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, calibrates, and aligns CNC and related machinery in a large, modern machine shop. This multi-craft role supports the maintenance team in driving continuous improvement and maximizing machine uptime in a highly automated, technology-driven manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Install, commission, and set up CNC machines and associated equipment in a large modern machine shop. Perform preventive maintenance (PMs) on CNC machinery and related systems to maximize uptime and equipment reliability. Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and control-related issues on CNC and automated machinery. Calibrate and align CNC machines and associated equipment to ensure precision, accuracy, and repeatable performance. Diagnose and safely work on electrical systems and components ranging from 110V to 480V. Use hand tools, power tools, and appropriate test equipment to perform mechanical assembly, disassembly, repair, and service tasks. Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation to identify issues and execute repairs and installations. Identify and select appropriate replacement parts, components, and materials required for repairs and upgrades. Support the design, implementation, and maintenance of automatic production systems and processes to improve productivity and efficiency. Utilize troubleshooting approaches, tools, and techniques to anticipate, recognize, and resolve mechanical, electrical, systems, or operational problems in a manufacturing environment. Work with various automatic control systems and CNC controls, including Fanuc robots and controls, to maintain and optimize machine performance. Apply knowledge of plumbing, pipefitting, pneumatics, and hydraulics to support equipment installation and maintenance. Use CMMS systems such as SAP or Limble to document work orders, track maintenance activities, and manage equipment history. Assist with rigging equipment and components for installation, relocation, or removal of machinery in a safe and controlled manner. Follow established operating procedures, safety guidelines, and best practices while performing all maintenance activities. Collaborate closely with other maintenance technicians, production staff, and engineering to support continuous improvement initiatives and equipment upgrades. Participate in company-wide and equipment-specific training programs for new CNC and automation machinery. Contribute to a positive team environment by communicating effectively, sharing knowledge, and supporting coworkers as needed. Essential Skills Ability to understand and follow operating procedures, safety standards, and best practices in a manufacturing environment. Strong electrical troubleshooting skills, including the ability to safely diagnose and repair electrical issues from 110V to 480V. Hands-on experience performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and calibration on CNC and associated machinery. Mechanical aptitude with experience in assembly, repair, and service of industrial equipment using hand tools and related equipment. Experience working in a CNC machining environment. Knowledge of various automatic control systems, processes, and methodologies in a manufacturing setting. Ability to design, implement, and maintain automatic production systems and processes to improve productivity and efficiency. Knowledge and experience with Fanuc robots and controls. Knowledge of plumbing, pipefitting, pneumatics, and hydraulics as they relate to industrial equipment. Proficiency in troubleshooting approaches, tools, and techniques for resolving mechanical, electrical, systems, or operational problems. Ability to identify appropriate replacement parts and components for repairs and maintenance. Ability to read blueprints and follow electrical and mechanical schematics. High level of interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Strong desire to learn, adapt to new technologies, and participate actively in a collaborative maintenance team. Additional Skills & Qualifications Preferred knowledge of CNC controls such as Siemens, Fanuc, Seiko, Hitachi, Haas, HEIDENHAIN, and Mazatrol. Familiarity with CMMS systems, including SAP and Limble, for managing maintenance activities and equipment records. Knowledge and ability to safely use rigging equipment and components for moving and installing machinery. Experience working with automation machinery and modern CNC equipment in a high-technology manufacturing environment. Comfort working in a multi-craft role that spans electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and control systems. Strong teamwork orientation with the ability to support continuous improvement and modernization initiatives. Why Work Here? The maintenance department operates in a newly renovated area and supports a growing operation that continues to add new machines. Work involves hands-on tasks around CNC machines, cutting tool equipment, and tool cutters, with extensive use of hand tools, test equipment, and computer-based systems such as CMMS platforms (SAP, Limble). The environment is production-focused but strongly emphasizes modernization, safety, and organization. Employees work on-site within a collaborative maintenance and production team, supporting continuous operations in a professional industrial setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Orwell, OH. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $38.00/hr.
