$20-$40/hr Updated 08/29/2026 Job Description Overview $20-$40/hr Job Summary KC Enterprises at Tampa North Aero Park (X39) is seeking an experienced FAA-certificated Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Mechanic to maintain a busy fleet of light general aviation aircraft supporting flight school operations. This hands-on role focuses on keeping training aircraft safe, reliable, compliant, and available for flight while also performing scheduled inspections, annual maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and return-to-service activities. The ideal candidate has strong experience with piston-powered aircraft, works effectively in a high-utilization environment, and understands the importance of thorough documentation, efficient troubleshooting, and clear communication with pilots, instructors, and maintenance leadership. Key Responsibilities Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair light general aviation aircraft in accordance with FAA regulations, manufacturer instructions, approved technical data, and company procedures. Support the daily maintenance needs of a high-utilization flight school fleet. Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, including 50-hour and 100-hour inspections, oil changes, tire and brake service, servicing, component replacement, and operational checks. Perform or assist with annual inspections, including aircraft disassembly, inspection, discrepancy identification, corrective work, reassembly, testing, and documentation. Diagnose airframe, engine, electrical, fuel, ignition, control-system, and related mechanical discrepancies. Evaluate pilot-reported squawks, determine appropriate corrective action, and communicate aircraft status clearly. Provide required information to support maintenance records, logbook entries, inspection checklists, parts documentation, and work orders accurately and promptly. Verify parts eligibility, traceability, serviceability, and proper installation. Conduct engine ground runs, leak checks, control checks, and other post-maintenance inspections. Coordinate with maintenance leadership to prioritize work based on safety, regulatory requirements, and flight schedule demands. Identify recurring discrepancies and recommend practical improvements to aircraft reliability and preventive maintenance. Maintain tools, equipment, work areas, and aircraft in a clean, safe, and organized condition. Follow established safety procedures, including proper handling of fuels, oils, batteries, compressed gases, and hazardous materials. Assist with parts inventory, maintenance planning, aircraft recovery, and other shop needs as required. Support and mentor less-experienced technicians when appropriate. Requirements Required Qualifications Current FAA Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic certificate. At least 3-5 years of hands-on aircraft maintenance experience, preferably involving light piston-powered general aviation aircraft. Experience performing scheduled inspections, troubleshooting, repairs, and preventive maintenance. Working knowledge of 14 CFR Parts 43 and 91 and applicable FAA maintenance requirements. Ability to interpret maintenance manuals, illustrated parts catalogs, service bulletins, airworthiness directives, wiring diagrams, and other technical data. Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Ability to produce complete, accurate, and compliant maintenance documentation. Ability to provide personal tools customary for the position. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Authorization to work in the United States. Preferred Qualifications Experience performing annual inspections and approving aircraft for return to service. Experience with common training aircraft such as Cessna 150/152/172, Piper PA-28 series or similar models. Experience with Lycoming and Continental piston engines. Experience working in a flight school, flying club, fixed-base operator, or high-tempo maintenance environment. Sheet-metal, composite, electrical, avionics troubleshooting, or engine-change experience. Skills and Attributes Safety-focused, dependable, and attentive to detail.
