Employment Type:

Reports To:
Director of Photography

ABOUT THE SHOW
Sky Patrol is a character-driven docuseries for the Discovery Channel following the aviation, ground, and marine units of law enforcement agencies across four Florida counties. Built around real incidents captured on agency FLIR helicopter footage — reenacted with the officers who lived them and layered with live ride-along coverage during active patrol — it's a show about real people doing extraordinary things. Produced by V1 Productions, the aviation-specialist company behind Amazon's Straight and Level.
THE ROLE
The Camera Technician rigs and maintains every fixed camera on the show — the four-camera package on each helicopter and the POV dash cameras in the ground and marine vehicles.
This is a critical-path role:
no aircraft camera rolls until you've gotten the rig approved and safely installed. You'll work hand-in-hand with each agency's aviation and maintenance crews, and you'll break down and re-rig as the production moves between agencies and counties.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Build, install, power, and maintain the four-camera helicopter package: skid (exterior), pilot over-the-shoulder, TFO over-the-shoulder, and dash two-shot.
  • Rig and maintain POV dash / console cameras in ground vehicles and marine vessels.
  • Coordinate directly with each agency's aviation and maintenance crews to get every aircraft mount reviewed, approved, and safely installed before flight.
  • Fabricate, adapt, and troubleshoot mounts, cabling, and power as conditions and aircraft differ from agency to agency.
  • Break down rigs cleanly and re-rig as units move between counties and agencies.
  • Maintain meticulous safety standards and documentation for all aircraft installations.
REQUIRED
  • Hands-on experience rigging cameras in vehicles and/or aircraft — mounts, hardware, power, and cabling.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude; able to fabricate and adapt mounts on location.
  • Familiarity with POV / action / lipstick cameras and multi-camera rig builds.
  • Safety-first mindset and the discipline to treat aircraft installation as a no-shortcuts, critical-path responsibility.
  • Ability to work professionally with law enforcement aviation and maintenance personnel to clear approvals.
  • Valid driver's license; able to pass an agency background check; physically able to lift gear and work on and around aircraft.
PREFERRED
  • Aviation background — A&P knowledge, prior aircraft camera installs, or work under FAA-regulated environments strongly preferred.
  • Experience on aerial or law enforcement productions.
  • Familiarity with FAA considerations for externally and internally mounted equipment.
