Job Description

The class specification for the position of a Chief Aviation Mechanic for the Sheriff's Office requires a high level of technical and mechanical aptitude, along with specialized training. The Chief Aviation Mechanic performs a variety of functions in support of the Sheriff's Office Aviation Unit including:
  • Inspect Helicopters Regularly
  • Troubleshoot and Diagnose Potential Problems
  • Perform Necessary Helicopter Maintenance and Repairs
  • Communicate with Pilots
  • Make Recommendations for
Maintenance, Repair, and Retirement of Helicopters Job Prerequisites:
A. 24-48
Months of Practical Turbine Helicopter Maintenance Experience B. FAA-approved Maintenance Technician Certification (A&P required and IA preferred) C. Previous Aviation Experience (OH-58/Bell 206B JetRanger) D. Previous Mechanic Experience (Microvibe System Familiarity preferred) E. Must own a complete set of aviation quality hand tools F. High school diploma or equivalent. G. Valid Florida Driver's License H. Supervisory Experience Knowledge, skills, and
Abilities:
A. Mechanical Skills B. Avionics Usage Skills C. Troubleshooting skills D. Critical Thinking E.
