Start YOUR career with DHL today… The Non-Powered Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair, and safe operation of non-powered ground support equipment used in airport and cargo operations. This position ensures equipment remains in safe working conditions, supports operational efficiency, and complies with company safety standards and regulatory requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform preventative maintenance and inspections on non-powered GSE, including: Cargo dollies Baggage carts Tow bars Crew stairs Diagnose and repair mechanical issues involving: Braking systems Wheel assemblies Bearings Structural components Hitches, couplers, and towing mechanisms Conduct welding, fabrication, and metal repair work as needed. Replace worn or damaged components to maintain equipment reliability and safety. Complete maintenance records, inspection reports, and work orders accurately and timely. Ensure compliance with OSHA, company safety policies, and airport regulations. Perform equipment audits and identify opportunities for equipment improvement or replacement. Maintain an organized and safe work environment. Assist with inventory management of parts, tools, and maintenance supplies. Respond to operational equipment failures to minimize service disruptions. Collaborate with operations personnel to ensure equipment availability and fleet readiness.
Qualifications Experience:
Experience maintaining trailers, carts, material handling equipment, or ground support equipment preferred. Basic knowledge of hydraulics, welding, fabrication, and mechanical systems.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or military equivalent.
Certifications:
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
Clearance:
Ability to pass a 10-year check to obtain airport SIDA badging and US Customs clearance.
Technical Skills:
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, drawings, and maintenance documentation. Proficient in using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment. Skills and Competencies Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills. Attention to detail and commitment to safety. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Effective communication and teamwork skills. Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced operational environment. Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 70 pounds regularly. Ability to stand, bend, kneel, climb, and work in various weather conditions. Ability to work around aircraft, cargo handling equipment, and active ramp operations. Ability to work assigned shifts, including some holidays, to support 24/7 airport operations. DHL is an equal opportunity employer.
