A&P Mechanic Job Description This role focuses on performing line and hangar maintenance on Boeing Dreamlifter (747-400) aircraft at the Charleston (CHS) airport within a Boeing facility. You will support a busy air cargo operation, carrying out routine and non-routine maintenance tasks and receiving basic inspection training as part of your development. The position starts as a contract role with a strong opportunity to transition to a permanent hire after six months. Responsibilities Perform line maintenance on Boeing Dreamlifter (747-400) and other Boeing aircraft models as required, ensuring safe and efficient turnaround of air cargo operations. Carry out overnight hangar maintenance activities, including scheduled and unscheduled inspections, repairs, and component replacements. Conduct basic aircraft inspections under guidance and training, following all applicable maintenance manuals, procedures, and regulatory requirements. Troubleshoot airframe and powerplant issues on Boeing aircraft such as 747, 737, 777, and 787, and coordinate corrective actions to return aircraft to service. Use appropriate tools, equipment, and technical documentation to perform maintenance tasks accurately and safely. Complete all required maintenance records, work cards, and documentation clearly and in compliance with regulatory and company standards. Collaborate with other technicians and station personnel to support efficient operations at a growing maintenance station. Adhere to all safety protocols, facility rules, and quality standards while working in line and hangar environments. Maintain readiness to work various shifts, including day and night schedules, and support a 4-on/3-off rotation. Obtain and maintain a Boeing facility badge and comply with all security and access requirements. Required Skills & Qualifications Valid FAA A&P License 1 - 2 years of line maintenance experience OR extensive Boeing 747, 737, 777, and 787 platforms experience. Capability to perform line maintenance and hangar maintenance in an active air cargo environment. Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including day and night shifts and a 4-on/3-off rotation. Work Environment The role is based at Charleston International Airport (CHS) within a Boeing facility, working in both line maintenance and hangar maintenance settings. The station has been operating since late 2021 and is growing from a 19-person team to approximately 27-29 mechanics, reflecting increased workload and long-term stability. You will work around large cargo aircraft, including Boeing Dreamlifter (747-400) and other Boeing models, using standard aircraft maintenance tools and equipment. The schedule follows a 4-on/3-off rotation, with one day shift from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and two night shifts from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., and you must be open to working any day of the week. The environment is hands-on, safety-focused, and fast-paced, supporting a major air cargo contract and offering ongoing technical exposure and growth. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of North Charleston, SC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $37.00/hr.
