THE OPPORTUNITY
New Flight is an established mobile aircraft maintenance company with a proven operational model, an existing client base, and a track record of quality service across Virginia and the surrounding region. We're bringing that foundation to our newest location at Blue Ridge Airport in Martinsville, VA — and we're looking for an exceptional Director of Maintenance to lead it. You're not starting from zero. There's already work on the books, clients ready to be served, and a company infrastructure behind you — systems, processes, and ownership support built from years of operating in this space. What you're stepping into is the opportunity to take that foundation and build something of your own on top of it: growing the client base, shaping the culture, and running the Martinsville shop the way a great shop should be run. If you've ever wanted to lead a facility with real ownership-level influence — without the financial risk of going it alone — this is that opportunity. You'll have the freedom to build, and the backing to do it right.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
This is a hands-on leadership role with immediate work demand from day one. You'll step into an active client base and a clear operational structure, then take ownership of growing it. As volume increases, you'll lead the hiring and build out your own team. Day-to-Day Operations — Perform aircraft inspections, routine maintenance, and unscheduled repairs on general aviation aircraft — Manage parts procurement, ordering, and inventory — Handle invoicing and job documentation with accuracy and professionalism — Maintain a clean, organized, and FAA-compliant maintenance environment Client Relationships — Serve as the primary point of contact for aircraft owners in your region — Build trust through clear communication, honest assessments, and consistent follow-through — Respond to mobile maintenance service calls at airports within your district across VA, NC, TN, and WV (typically 45-60 minute radius from KMTV) — Represent New Flight Aviation's reputation for quality and client-first service Business Development — Manage and grow an existing client base at the Martinsville location — Leverage New Flight Aviation's established systems, processes, and brand to accelerate growth — Participate in weekly meetings with ownership for performance reviews, strategy, and support — Take a direct role in hiring and building your maintenance team as volume increases
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
— Active A&P (Airframe & Powerplant) mechanic certificate — required — Inspection Authorization (IA) — strongly preferred — 3+ years of experience in general aviation maintenance — Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage competing priorities without close supervision — Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills across airframe and powerplant systems — Excellent communicator — with clients, ownership, and future team members — Honest, accountable, and detail-oriented; someone who takes pride in doing the job right — Comfortable working in a mobile capacity and traveling 45-60 minutes to service regional airports —
Business-minded:
able to handle invoicing, parts ordering, and administrative responsibilities
COMPENSATION & GROWTH
Base Salary — Two-Tier Structure — A&P Certificate (required): $65,000 base salary — A&P + Inspection Authorization (IA): $70,000 base salary — Candidates without an IA who obtain one will be eligible for a structured salary review Upside & Benefits — Profit-sharing bonus tied directly to location performance — percentage increases as the business grows — Full benefits package introduced as the facility reaches sustained profitability — Direct line to ownership with genuine influence over how the location is run and staffed There's already work on the books and clients ready to be served. The upside here is real, immediate, and tied directly to what you build.
