Primarily Day; must be available for nights and weekends as needed. Job Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented and mechanically inclined Life Safety Technician to join our team. You will be responsible for the critical inspection, maintenance, and testing of life safety items, using a bar-code asset management program. This role is vital for ensuring compliance and occupant safety across various commercial and medical facilities. The ideal candidate is a hands-on problem solver capable of or willing to learn how to interpret life safety drawings, technical/mechanical drawings and delivering high-quality safety solutions. Candidate must be able to work independently as well as on a team.
Key Responsibilities Fire and Smoke Wall Inspections:
Inspect, Install and maintain fire-rated sealants, sprays, and boards to seal penetrations in fire-rated walls/floors.
Fire/Smoke Damper Inspections:
Perform routine inspection, testing and maintenance of fire, smoke, and combination dampers in accordance with NFPA 80 and
NFPA 105
standards.
Fire Door Inspections:
Conduct visual and functional inspections of fire-rated door assemblies to ensure proper latching and closing.
Monthly/Annual Life Safety Equipment Inspections:
Emergency lighting, exit lighting and fire extinguisher inspection.
Required Qualifications Mechanical Aptitude:
Strong proficiency with hand and power tools (drills, saws).
Carpentry Skills:
Must possess basic carpentry skills.
Light Electrical Skills:
Must possess basic knowledge in light electrical.
Technical Literacy:
Ability to read and interpret life safety and mechanical drawings or must be willing to learn.
Computer Skills:
Must have basic computer skills.
Flexibility:
Must be able to work nights and weekends on occasion to meet client needs and facility schedules.
Travel:
Must have transportation. Willingness and ability to travel out of state for project-based work as required.
Physical Stamina:
Ability to climb ladders, work in confined spaces (crawl spaces, above ceilings), and lift up to 50 lbs.
Clearance:
Valid driver's license and ability to pass a background check. Bonus Skills Experience in construction, carpentry, electrical and HVAC industries are preferred. Existing certifications such as NICET or ICB (Fire and Smoke Damper Technician). Knowledge of NFPA codes (NFPA 10, 80, 101, and 105). Portable Fire Extinguisher inspection certification Benefits
