Low Voltage Technician Job Description:
We are looking for a skilled Level 2 Low Voltage Technician to join our team in [City Name]. The Level 2 Low Voltage Technician will be responsible for the installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of advanced low voltage systems, such as data networks, security systems, fire alarms, audio-visual equipment, and network infrastructure. This position involves leading installations, overseeing cable management, ensuring systems are configured properly, and providing guidance to Level 1 Low Voltage Technicians. The Level 2 Low Voltage Technician will work with minimal supervision and will ensure all tasks are performed efficiently, safely, and in accordance with industry standards and local codes.
Key Responsibilities:
Install, configure, and test complex low voltage systems, including CCTV cameras, access control systems, fire alarms, audio-visual systems, and network infrastructure. Run, pull, and terminate low voltage cables (e.g., Cat5e, Cat6, fiber optics, coaxial cables) and install components such as routers, switches, panels, cameras, and sensors. Program and configure devices, including security panels, IP cameras, and access control software, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems. Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues with low voltage systems, including wiring problems, system malfunctions, and connectivity issues. Lead installations on job sites, ensuring the work meets project specifications, local codes, and industry regulations. Perform system commissioning, calibration, and testing to verify proper system functionality and ensure top-tier performance. Mentor and guide Level 1 Low Voltage Technicians on installation techniques, safety protocols, and troubleshooting methods. Ensure all installations comply with industry codes (e.g., NEC, BICSI) and meet safety standards. Communicate effectively with clients to understand their requirements and ensure installations meet their expectations. Maintain accurate documentation of all installations, including system configurations, troubleshooting logs, and project timelines. Perform preventive maintenance, upgrades, and system improvements as needed to keep systems running smoothly. Ensure all installations are carried out with a focus on quality, safety, and efficiency.
Requirements:
3+ years of experience in the installation, troubleshooting, and configuration of low voltage systems. Proficiency in installing and configuring low voltage systems, including CCTV, access control, fire alarms, audio-visual systems, and networking equipment. Advanced knowledge of low voltage cabling (e.g., Cat5e, Cat6, fiber, coax) and related hardware. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and system schematics to guide installation and maintenance. Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills to resolve complex low voltage system issues. Proven experience leading installation projects and managing teams on-site to ensure timely and accurate completion. In-depth knowledge of local, state, and national codes (NEC, BICSI) and best practices within the low voltage industry. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and deliver high-quality results. Excellent communication skills for client interactions and regular reporting on project progress. Strong mentoring and training abilities to develop and guide junior low voltage technicians. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Certifications such as BICSI, NICET, or other relevant industry certifications (preferred). Ability to work in commercial, residential, and industrial environments, and willingness to be on call or work after-hours as needed for urgent troubleshooting or system installs.
