Fire Protection Designer II Location:
Columbus, OH Job Type:
Full-Time Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Fire Protection Designer II to join a growing construction team in the Columbus area. This position will be responsible for designing and coordinating fire protection systems for commercial, industrial, and institutional projects from initial layout through permitting and fabrication. The ideal candidate will have 3-5+ years of fire protection design experience , strong knowledge of sprinkler system design and hydraulic calculations, and experience utilizing AutoCAD and fire protection design software. Responsibilities Design and develop fire protection and sprinkler system layouts using architectural, structural, and project drawings. Perform hydraulic calculations and verify system requirements. Prepare detailed drawings and documentation for permitting, fabrication, and field installation. Coordinate fire protection designs with architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and other building systems. Identify potential design conflicts and work with project teams to resolve coordination issues. Review drawings for accuracy, constructability, code compliance, and project specifications prior to fabrication. Prepare material and stock listings to support fabrication and installation activities. Coordinate drawing and submittal schedules with project management. Review equipment and material submittals for sizing, quantities, compatibility, and available installation space. Communicate regularly with project managers, field foremen, engineers, architects, and other trades throughout the design process. Participate in project meetings and occasional jobsite visits as needed. Document design changes, discrepancies, and missing information that could impact project coordination or installation. Qualifications 3-5+ years of fire protection system design experience NICET Level II and/or applicable state certification required Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and specifications Experience performing hydraulic calculations Working knowledge of applicable NFPA codes and standards Strong understanding of fire sprinkler system layout and design OSHA 10 certification preferred/required Valid driver's license Software & Technical Skills AutoCAD HydraCAD or similar fire protection design software Navisworks/BIM coordination Revit experience General computer proficiency Strong mathematical and technical aptitude Preferred Background Candidates with experience designing fire protection systems for commercial construction, healthcare, institutional, industrial, manufacturing, or other large-scale facilities are encouraged to apply.
