What You'll Do As an Alarm Technician , you'll install, service, and support residential and light commercial security systems, including alarms, surveillance, and Alarm.com automation. You'll work on projects ranging from new construction rough-ins to system upgrades and service calls, helping ensure our clients feel confident and protected using their technology. This role is best suited for someone with solid hands-on security experience who takes ownership of their work and understands how security systems fit into the larger smart home ecosystem. Whether you're performing a new installation or responding to a service call, you'll be expected to show up as a steady, professional presence for our clients. You'll take time to answer questions, explain systems clearly, and help clients feel confident using their technology. Client service is something we take seriously at AVS. No matter the size of the issue, we expect patience, clarity, and a genuine willingness to help, especially when clients need it most. Your Core Responsibilities Install, service, and troubleshoot security and surveillance systems Work with alarm systems, cameras, and Alarm.com automation Pull, terminate, label, and test low-voltage wiring during new construction and retrofit projects Interpret blueprints, system designs, and electronic schematics Diagnose and resolve system- and component-level issues Integrate security systems with other residential technology when applicable Provide clear client training and system walkthroughs Maintain clean job sites and detailed documentation Collaborate with teammates to improve system quality and installation flow Adapt to shifting schedules and priorities as client needs change What a
Typical Week Might Look Like Monday:
Pre-wire a new construction home for alarm and surveillance systemsTuesday:
Upgrade an existing client's security system and add Alarm.com automation featuresWednesday:
Install and configure cameras, motion sensors, and monitoring equipment, then test and verify system performanceThursday:
Troubleshoot onsite security issues that couldn't be resolved remotelyFriday:

Skills & Experience We're Looking For 2-5+ years of experience installing, servicing, and troubleshooting security/alarm systems Experience with DSC and/or Qolsys strongly preferred Experience with Alarm.com is a major plus Understanding of residential systems integration (security, networking, A/V, automation) Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and manuals Strong troubleshooting mindset and attention to detail Comfortable lifting up to 75 lbs and working in attics and job-site environments Tech-forward and comfortable with networking fundamentals High emotional intelligence and strong client-facing communication Clean driving record and reliable transportation Compensation at the top end of the range requires significant, proven industry experience and the ability to work independently.
