Description:
Position Summary The Body Shop Apprentice assists collision repair technicians with vehicle repair preparation, maintenance, and shop support duties while learning body repair procedures and industry standards. This entry-level position provides hands-on training in collision repair, refinishing, and shop operations under the supervision of experienced technicians and management. The ideal candidate is motivated, dependable, eager to learn, and interested in developing a career in automotive collision repair. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist body shop technicians with vehicle disassembly, preparation, and reassembly tasks. Perform basic sanding, masking, cleaning, and repair preparation duties. Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, tools, and equipment. Transport vehicles safely within the dealership and body shop areas. Assist with parts handling, inventory organization, and material preparation. Follow all dealership safety procedures and OSHA guidelines. Learn proper use of body shop tools, repair equipment, and refinishing materials. Support technicians and management with general shop duties as assigned. Observe and participate in collision repair processes to develop technical skills. Report equipment issues, safety concerns, or repair discrepancies to supervisors. Attend training sessions and complete assigned learning activities. Maintain professional conduct and willingness to learn in a team environment
Requirements:
Qualifications Strong willingness to learn and develop collision repair skills. Basic mechanical aptitude and interest in automotive repair. Ability to follow instructions and work effectively under supervision. Strong attention to detail and safety awareness. Dependable work ethic and positive attitude. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record preferred. Ability to work collaboratively with technicians and team members. Education and Experience High school diploma or GED preferred. Enrollment in or completion of automotive or collision repair vocational training preferred. Prior automotive, detailing, or shop experience is a plus but not required. Entry-level position with on-the-job training provided. Physical Requirements Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, and lifting. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Ability to work around vehicles, repair equipment, paint materials, and shop tools. Manual dexterity to operate hand tools and equipment safely. Ability to work in varying temperatures and physically demanding conditions. Work Environment Fast-paced automotive body shop environment with exposure to noise, vehicle fumes, paint materials, dust, and repair equipment. Frequent physical activity and movement throughout the shop are required, with occasional extended hours based on operational needs.
