Job Description
Position Summary The Body Shop Prepper / Assistant is responsible for supporting body repair technicians and painters by preparing vehicles and work areas for refinishing and repair. This role is essential to maintaining production flow, quality standards, and shop efficiency. The Prepper / Assistant performs surface preparation, masking, sanding, cleaning, and general shop support duties to ensure vehicles are ready for painting and final repair. This position requires attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to work in a fast-paced automotive body shop environment.
Work Schedule & Hours Regular Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00PM Additional Hours:
Evenings and/or weekends may be required based on production demands or business needs This position is non-exempt and eligible for overtime compensation in accordance with applicable federal and Kansas wage and hour laws Essential Duties & Responsibilities Vehicle Preparation Sand, mask, tape, and clean vehicle surfaces prior to painting Assist with surface preparation for body repairs and refinishing Perform priming, block sanding, and basic finishing work as assigned Clean vehicles before and after repair or paint processes Paint & Body Support Assist painters and body technicians with job setup and breakdown Move vehicles safely within the shop as directed Prepare parts, panels, and materials for painting or repair Perform basic touch-ups or prep work under supervision Shop Organization & Safety Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, tools, and equipment Follow all safety policies, OSHA standards, and PPE requirements Properly handle and dispose of materials, chemicals, and waste Report equipment issues or safety concerns promptly Qualifications & Skills Previous auto body shop or prep experience preferred but not required Ability to follow instructions and work efficiently Strong attention to detail and quality standards Ability to work independently and as part of a team Reliable attendance and punctuality Willingness to learn new skills and processes Physical & Environmental Requirements Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and reach for extended periods Ability to lift up to 50 pounds Ability to work in an automotive shop environment with exposure to dust, fumes, noise, and varying temperatures Ability to wear required PPE for extended periods Performance Expectations Timely completion of prep and support tasks Consistent adherence to safety and quality standards Professional conduct and teamwork Compliance with Company policies and procedures MCAB is an equal opportunity employeePay:
