Body Shop Prepper Best Auto Body Management LLC West Orange, NJ Job Details Full-time $20 - $25 an hour 1 hour ago Benefits Health insurance Dental insurance 401(k) Paid time off Vision insurance Life insurance Qualifications Maintenance High school diploma or GED Driver's License Attention to detail Manual handling Full Job Description Position Summary The Body Shop Prepper is responsible for preparing vehicles and vehicle parts for painting by performing sanding, masking, cleaning, priming, and other surface preparation tasks. This position plays a critical role in ensuring high-quality paint finishes and supporting efficient workflow within the collision repair process. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Prepare repaired vehicle panels and parts for paint application. Sand, feather-edge, and smooth repaired surfaces. Apply primers, sealers, and other preparatory coatings as directed. Mask and protect vehicle areas that are not being painted. Clean vehicles and surfaces before painting to remove dust, grease, and contaminants. Inspect repaired areas to ensure they meet quality standards before painting. Assist painters with moving vehicles, mixing materials, and maintaining paint shop operations. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. Properly use and maintain tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE). Follow all company safety policies, environmental regulations, and manufacturer procedures. Communicate effectively with painters, technicians, and management regarding repair status. Perform shop maintenance and other duties as assigned by the Body Shop Manager. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous body shop, collision repair, automotive prep, or related experience. Knowledge of sanding techniques, masking procedures, and paint preparation processes. Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and body shop equipment safely. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet production deadlines. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record preferred. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and reach for extended periods. Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds. Ability to work around paint materials, dust, fumes, and shop equipment while wearing required PPE. Manual dexterity sufficient to operate tools and equipment safely. Work Environment Collision repair and automotive body shop environment. Exposure to noise, dust, paint products, chemicals, and varying temperatures. Compliance with all OSHA, environmental, and company safety requirements is mandatory.
