Job Title:
Part-Time Mechanic Job Description This part-time role offers a flexible weekday schedule and the opportunity to maintain and repair a wide variety of vehicles, tools, and equipment. You will work in a fast-paced, hands-on environment where you diagnose issues, perform repairs, and support both shop and field operations. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys variety, takes pride in quality workmanship, and is comfortable working independently. Responsibilities Diagnose, repair, and maintain vehicles, tools, and mechanical equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation. Perform preventative maintenance and routine inspections on a wide range of equipment. Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues and determine effective repair solutions. Service and repair small engines, including lawn mowers, pressure washers, generators, and chainsaws. Maintain and repair pickup trucks and light-duty vehicles used in daily operations. Assist with maintenance and repair of construction equipment such as mini excavators, backhoes, trailers, and related machinery. Use hand tools and other shop equipment safely and effectively while performing repairs. Keep work areas clean, organized, and safe, following established shop standards. Track maintenance needs, document repair status, and communicate progress as required. Communicate equipment issues, repair timelines, and maintenance needs clearly with team members. Follow all safety procedures and guidelines while working in the shop and in the field. Support both shop and field operations as needed, including occasional on-site equipment support. Essential Skills Demonstrated mechanical aptitude with experience in mechanic or equipment maintenance roles preferred. Hands-on experience working with multiple types of equipment, including vehicles, small engines, and mechanical tools, strongly preferred. Familiarity with small engines such as lawn mowers, pressure washers, generators, and chainsaws. Experience working with construction equipment, including mini excavators, backhoes, trailers, and similar machinery, is a plus. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems. Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and complete tasks with minimal supervision. Basic computer or mobile device skills to track maintenance and communicate updates, preferred. Dependable, organized, and strongly focused on safety in all tasks. Physical ability to lift tools, equipment, and parts as needed for repairs and maintenance. Valid driver's license. Ability to communicate effectively in English in both verbal and written form. Bilingual skills in English and Spanish are a plus, but not required. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience repairing and maintaining mechanical equipment used in construction environments. Comfort using a variety of hand tools and shop equipment in daily repair work. Mechanical knowledge related to motors, mechanical systems, and equipment repair. Ability to support both shop and field operations and adapt to changing priorities. Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a safe and orderly work area. Willingness to learn new equipment and systems as needed. Why Work Here? Work Environment This is a part-time position with a weekday schedule, typically Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. or Monday through Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:40 p.m., with some flexibility to adjust hours as needed. You will work primarily in a shop environment with occasional support in the field, handling vehicles, small engines, and construction equipment. The role is hands-on and physically active, involving the use of hand tools and other shop equipment, as well as lifting tools, parts, and components as needed. Safety procedures and guidelines are a core part of daily operations, and the work setting emphasizes cleanliness, organization, and safe work practices. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Decatur, AL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
